Oh dear, this is really embarrassing. I was just wondering if it’s wrong to have certain thoughts about musicians while listening to their music. I’m not referring to mainstream joke music, I mean the good kind where the lyrics and instrumentation are brilliant. The band that I have in mind has members who are extremely intelligent and also attractive in my opinion. The music is of the finest quality, and it enriches my life. Is this horribly corrupt of me?

Thank you for putting my mind at ease. However, I don’t think it’s quite that simple because they’re not mere “daydreams” in this case. Again, I’m very embarrassed.😊

Based on your words, if your thoughts about particular people are causing you to be “very embarrassed”, then you might be straying into the territory of lustful fantasy. You might want to talk to your priest about these thoughts.

When I was younger and had “thoughts” about rock stars, they were usually romantic in nature and pretty harmless. I might have fantasies about being the girlfriend or wife or the mother of his children. I don’t see anything wrong with that. But if I were fantastizing about sexual interaction, that would be a problem.

Yes, I have to admit they’re sexual thoughts. However, isn’t this normal? Although these thoughts are amusing to entertain, they are also naturally biological. I am somewhat unfamiliar with the faith’s teachings here. I’m trying to learn, so please be patient. :o

Typically, the sin begins when you ‘entertain’ these thoughts…so if you are doing that and not dismissing them when they occur, you may be sinning…no one here can determine that, though…just between you and your confessor.

“Normal” is irrelevent. Lots of things are “normal” and yet contrary to the Christian life. Catholics are called to chastity and so are required to work toward self-mastery over our impulses. With God’s grace, it is possible to overcome the temptation to lust. From the Catechism:
****2351 *****Lust *is disordered desire for or inordinate enjoyment of sexual pleasure. Sexual pleasure is morally disordered when sought for itself, isolated from its procreative and unitive purposes.
