I would like to add a question to this thread. I saw a blurred-out picture of a woman who was wearing an outfit that exposed part of her body. Curious about the story, I looked up news stories about the incident, and noticed what looked like a non-blurred-out photo of the woman, and quickly clicked out of the story before seeing any nude pictures.

I tend to be scrupulous, and would like some help to determine whether this was a mortal sin?

Depends on what your intentions were and where your heart was.

Hey, everyone.

So, I was wondering if you admire someone briefly, yet don’t dwell on them in terms of lustful thoughts, is it lust? On a side not, for example, I play a basketball video game, and after a ball went out of bounds my eyes drifted and noticed a cheerleader. I briefly looked at them, then looked away, and then again looked, and told myself to stop, and tried to shut out thought of impure origin or lust. I did not in any way imagine them in a sexual manner. It was more me trying to justify what I saw as not being sinful. Sometimes, stuff comes into my line of sight, and I see it, and generally turn away or maybe look to clarify what I saw and turn away again. This happens a lot, and I am wondering if this is mortally sinful. I don’t watch impure imagery, and don’t purposely conjure up impure thoughts. Sometimes I see something and my mind wanders or I look at it out of curiosity, but try to keep reasonable retraint of the eyes. Please help.
The bible says to take every thought captive, but, I think you are going overboard.
There is no harm in looking as long as you are aware, you will be okay.
If you didn’t look, that might be a problem LOL

Pray the Rosary often. This replaces impure thoughts with pure ones.

That may be a way to escape from seeing the truth about yourselves, it is only a temporary answer, you have to know how to overcome impure thoughts, not push them away temporarily .for the sin is still alive.
Where are you ;people coming from? Dreamland?

The effects of original sin , concupiscence, will be with you most of your life. Every time you resist you merit in God’s eyes. Even the saints had this problem. In our society the modern fashions for girls, and the glorification of the body do not make it easy for those who strive for purity. If you keep resisting you develop the habit of purity,it’s called a “virtue”. this virtue prepares a ’ mind where the Holy Spirit can dwell " Blessed are the pure of heart for they shall see God" If we love God and keep His commandments, love God, and love neighbor God promises to reveal Himself to that individual, even in this life. The human body was designed by God to be attractive both aesthetically and biologically for procreation. Don’t be alarmed by your feelings, but use your will power not to control your feelings but your self do not will the pleasure, distract yourself. Use your physical energy in sports, work or just exercise. If you give in, go to confession, and regain your original state of grace. Be a spiritual warrior, a good fighter is one that gets knocked down, but gets up again. God will be there for you. Don’t obsess Ignore the fact that you took a second look, as soon as you realize it look away, as long as you did not will the pleasure you didn’t sin. You will feel pleasure, don’t dwell. This info with the info other members gave you should definitely help you. Use every means of grace to supply your spiritual strength. God bless you.
