Hello Sara,
I applaud you on another exellent thread.
I think one has to ask, “Why did God not make a box of rocks into saints rather than Protestants?”.
If free willed chosen love for God is not an ingredient for eternal life then why allow free will in the first place? If there was no free will there would be no hatred, sin and damnation.
Why did not God impute faith and into a box of rocks, which do not have the capacity to be unrighteous, and then give the box of rocks knoledge and understanding that they were just a box of rocks which He brought into eternal life?
Catholics belive that through our obedience and good works we produce the fruit of the Kingdom of God. We believe that we have the choice to love or hate God through obedience and disobedience and it is those who freely choose to love God who go to heaven through Jesus.
If human free willed choices of love and obedience have no connection with eternal life, then I would think that Protestants would agree that imputting faith into a box of rocks, which do not have the capacity to be unrighteous, and bringing the box of rocks into eternal life, would be a whole lot better idea than allowing human free will from which hatred, sin and damnation flow.
