Mine at least.

Assume there are no personal federal income taxes and you keep everything you earn from a paycheck. There are still state and local taxes applied to products to raise state money for roads and parks, hospitals…, but not your income. All else is currently the same.

You make $100 a month; you put $20 in savings, $20 for your house, $20 for food/utilities, and $10 to your local parish. 😛 (My pastor would love to hear that). After insurance, clothes, a movie the remaining $30 is down to $10. being the generous person that you are, you give it to charity.

The 10 jars below have the following lables. Please place your $ by checking the box you freely give too. What would receive your money in my perfect world?

And hedge fund managers and CEOs would keep their money and spent it on opulent houses and yachts.

I wonder how will services for the poor will be provided.

I tried to answer that question, but I imagined I had ten million dollars instead.

The Democracy Alliance will act as a financial clearing house. Its staff members and board of directors will develop a lineup of established and proposed groups that they believe will develop and promote ideas on the left. You didn’t have the poll when I first read it.

I choose the UN, alternative energy, new schools, and earthquake victims.

I do not know about Catholic Charities… I think they would spend their money better than the aforementioned governments. (Mexico and Pakistan might be corrupt and I believe wealthy people should pay for the Iraq War as they supported Bush and benefited the most from their economic policies)… but do they directly proselytize?
 
I marked all except the U.N. I never give money to the enemies of my country or my Church.
 
I marked all of them because I believe all of them are worthy of support depending on particular circumstances. I would have to know about those circumstances before I could decide the worthiness of the cause.

Remember, you have a finite amount of money to allocate to those causes… given to one means you will have to give less or none to another cause.
 
I gave you all too much money in my perfect world. I should have limited it to $5 and maybe I will reask it. With all things being equal giving money to the governmenet of Pakistan and Mexico (even the US)- the money given rarely makes it to those intended.
 
If Im american, i would give to all except to pakistan, mexico and catholic charities.

i’m not pakistani, i’m not mexican, i’m not catholic (i dont trust religious charities).
 
I voted for NASA because it stimulates the human imagination and to roads and rail so I could get to Cape Canaveral. Since I don’t know if I trust Agnos T I’d probably give some to Catholic Charities even though I’m prone to have reservations about them.😉

none. the reason i dont trust it is because the church may be biased enough to give more of my donations to needy catholics than needy infidels. not fair. 😃

You do have a point. We could always use the money to bribe the infidels. That seems a positive use of the money.:rolleyes:

Actually, the Catholic Church, whose charities and aid organizations help more people than any other NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) and more people than the UN, does not question the beliefs of those whom they distribute aid. Nor do they evangelize. Neither do they limit aid to traditionally Catholic countries. Evangelization is done by missionaries, not the aid organizations.

^ and I’m reversing my position. withraw from NASA and give to Catholic Charities.
 
I voted everything but the UN, im not a fan of imperialism. However, were the topic where should the US government give money, i would have only marked the earthquake and energy boxes. All the others are not National government places.
