Where can I find the official Catholic teaching on abortion in cases of rape or incest? I have seen alot of people write on it but no official document.

Catechism of the Catholic Church:

2271 Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of **every **procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law.

Why would the Church need a document on these 2 cases? A child is present in both cases. The intention or the origin is completely irrelevant.

Abortion is the murder of an unborn child. Period. It is an evil, no exceptions.

Why do people always believe rape and incest are somehow factors that change this?

It would seem more just to execute the guilty perpetrator than the innocent baby. Yet I have never seen an advocate of abortion promote the death penalty for rape or incest.

In fact, in years gone by, many men were executed for rape.

There was a famous case in California, a man named Carol Chessman, who was executed for rape. He staved off the death penalty for almost 9 years (which was VERY unusual in the 1950’s and early 1960’s). He also wrote 2 best selling books; one was “Cell 2455 - Death Row”.

Black men were commonly executed for raping white women in every state in the union.

Personally, I’d like to see rapists physically completely castrated (both penis and testicles). I think that punishment would be appropriate for the crime.

Well, if a black man was guilty of raping white women in every state in the union, that would be quite a number of rapes that he would have committed, no? 😉

No such thing as “complete castration” involving the penis. Why would you support mutilation of the genitals as an appropriate punishment?

You must think you are very clever, but you are not. In every state of the Union, black men were routinely condemned for raping white women; while white men that raped black women were generally given short sentences (if they were found guilty at all).

Castration can be done three different ways. The penis can be removed; the testicles can be removed or both can be removed. Any one of those is a form of castration, medically speaking.

It is impossible to rape another person if your genitals have been removed. Rapists almost never respond to treatment, and it is a crime that is frequently repeated. Removal of the testes and penis would prevent such a person from ever doing this again. It would also remove their testosterone permanently, which would tend to be calming.

I do not support the incarceration of most criminals for years and years (the cost is amazingly high), if there is any alternative. Removal of the genitals would be much less expensive, and it would assure that this person would never again rape anyone.

Dorland’s illustrated Medical Dictionary:

Castration: removal of the gonads…

Gonads: a gamete-producing gland; an ovary or testis.

Sorry. Castration does not involve the penis. Show me a reference to the contrary. I’ve performed hundreds of castrations. Never touched the penis. And you’ve done…how many? 😉

Wow. Your position on mutilation is not consistant with Catholic teachings. Furthermore, if cost is an issue, a bullet, costs far less than either medical mutilation or incarceration, no? Hey, a hanging rope is cheaper yet; it can be reused over and over. Or a tub of water for drowning. Water is cheap.

Sarcasm deliberate, sorry. I understand the outrage at such crimes. Voluntary chemical castration, yes, by all means. It works. It’s humane. It’s voluntary.

But we as Catholics have to temper our justice with mercy. Not saying that rapists do not deserve to be punished for their crimes, but mutilation? Over the line.

Sorry for TMI but a castrated rapist could still do sexual violence to women using objects or his hands. In what way would the castration eliminate the violent sexual impulse and prevent him from harming more women?
