CATHOLIC-BASHING. It’s something we might as well get used to. As secularist society grows increasingly intolerant of all things authentically Catholic, we should certainly anticipate Catholic institutions of higher learning coming under fire, at least those whose administrations are disinclined to invite the likes of Father James Martin to deliver the commencement addresses.

If Catholics ascertained how Emmanuel Carrère’s “The Kingdom” depicts the most Blessed Virgin Mary, they should be outraged at how this blasphemous book could have ever ended up in a classroom on any Catholic University! Down right despicable!!!

There were five students in that class. I hope there is proportional outrage at the websites that published the blasphemy to attack FUS and put the same words out there to thousands. This was done after the book had been withdrawn and the selection had been withdrawn. Five students read that book in Spring of 2018. That website is a greater spreader of blasphemy than Fr. Sheridan. And for what?

I could care less if there was only one student. The fact remains that this was extremely blasphemous material directed at the Blessed Mother of God. The very fact that this was ever written at all, by a Catholic no less, is an extreme affront to Almighty God.

There are some things you just can’t do. To present unspeakable blasphemous material directed at the most Blessed Virgin on a Catholic campus is one of those. Mary is unquestionably the Ark of the New Covenant, and so being is untouchable by my way of thinking. I choose to defend our Blessed Mother…not Franciscan University.

Probably because that’s how the downfall starts. I don’t think Notre Dame abandoned its Catholic faith overnight. I’m sure there were small classes and a small handful of professors and faculty that slowly chipped away at the orthodoxy of the university, until we were left with what you see now.

I for one don’t see the reports as bashing every professor at the school, but merely to highlight what appears to be a troubling issue, that would’ve gone unreported. Could it be a growing trend at the school? I hope not, but I wouldn’t want to let it go without some looking into.

That is why I was so offended by the gratuitous reporting on this incident. Yes, the material is indefensible. I get that. No one is saying otherwise, so can that straw man at least be dispensed with. Yes, offending one student is bad, but offending thousands is worse. I can not see otherwise.
I hope not, but I wouldn’t want to let it go without some looking into.
Even if this “looking into” increased the blasphemy exponentially? Isn’t that exactly the same argument of necessity the professor used?
