I’m really having trouble with my decision to join the Catholic Church. i’ve been fully taught in the teachings of the church, i had private instruction due to no RCIA class at the parish. The priest has given me leverage in having a private ceremony in the church’s oratory. The only thing i need to do is be recieved into the church. The place where i live has a profound impact on my indecision on not to convert. I live in Northern Ireland, a place that has been in turmoil over religious divisions. I come from a Protestant family and background. If they found out what i was doing they would certainly disown me, but i love my family as anyone would but i can’t help feel God’s call to the Catholic Church. Every bone in my body is telling me to be with Jesus in His Church and recieve his Body and Blood present in the Eucharist. I have to chose between God’s love and my family’s love and i can’t make either sacrifice. Any comments would be greatly appreciated and i apologise if i have posted in the wrong section.

Thanks.🙂

I will pray that our Lord give you the Grace and courage you will need. This is a difficult situation to be in.I will also pray for your family.:signofcross:

Thank you, i appreciate it. I would join the Church in a heartbeat if i knew my family would still love and support me. I’ve spoke to my Catechism teacher about this and he agrees i’m in a pickle, but the decision ultimately lies with me.
I also feel that everything will make sense when i recieve Holy Communion for the first time. I feel like i’ve sinned for denying myself the Eucharist which i have been called to recieve. I yearn to be a good and devout Catholic but my family is in my heart and my call feels like a betrayal to them.

Wow, I didnt know it was that bad in N Ireland. Besides our prayers I dont really know what to say. Maybe you should tell your family first before you officially join because they will probably take it worse if you show up saying you have already joined. I dont know though.

It’s not as bad as it used to be but there’s still alot of bitterness and people are reluctant to display their faith in fear of attack.

I’ve thought about telling my family beforehand but i think the end result will be the same. I’m truly at a loss as to what to do. 😦

All Saints,
from my understanding, the conflicts between Catholics and Protestants in Ireland, have more to do with political/economic issues than religion itself.

You’re not joining the IRA, but joining the Church established by Jesus Christ.

Explain to your family and friends, that you are following a spiritual path into the Catholic Church, not a political one.

Remember, the last two Popes condemned any violence committed by Irish, in the name of Catholicism. Those who committed such violence, acted outside of the Catholic Church.
