Who else sang this as a kid?
I remember our whole primary classes singing along with the recording of it, and also at Mass.
(I hope those who have strong opinions about Mass music would kindly save that for another thread, as this one is about my childhood memories. Thank you in advance. )

I always liked this story as a kid…kids are short and know what it’s like to not be able to see.

I did! I actually had the song stuck in my head on the way home from Mass. This is one of my favorite readings. How cool would it be to have Jesus ask to come stay at your house? I find myself to be short enough that I’d need to climb a tree just like he did!

Oh my goodness, you’ve just transported me back in time to around 1986 😂😂.

It’s not quite the same song as the one that’s now stuck in my head. Ours had a line “come down Zacchaeus give the Lord His tea” and now I’m wondering if that’s cos we’re British and of course the first thing we would offer our Lord would be tea!

I think there’s another Zacchaeus song for kids because the one I posted was popular in the late 60s and early 70s - the first “guitar Mass” era. I haven’t heard it since the early 70s.

Mountain Butorac who runs the “Catholic Traveler” blog posted some lyrics today that went
Zacchaeus was a wee little man, a wee little man was he.
He climbed up in a sycamore tree for the Lord he wanted to see.
And when the Savior passed that way He looked up in the tree.
And he said, “Zacchaeus, you come down! For I’m going to your house today! For I’m going to your house today!”
I’m not sure how old Mountain is but I’m guessing from his pictures and our conversations, he’s about 15 years younger than me, which would have made him an 80s kid. He’s American though and not British.

Edited to add, I found this other song on Youtube. This must have been way after I grew up as I don’t remember it at all.

Here’s another version with an extra verse.

I can’t find the song but I’ve found other people referring to it so at least I’ve not lost my marbles lol.

I bet there’s people all over the world singing your version now you’ve reminded them of it by posting it on here 😃

This is what we learned in Sunday School/VBS in the Baptist churches.

Why did I click play!? I’m so glad I’m an adult convert. If I’d heard this growing up I might have just walked away🤣

Oh we had a whole book of songs by the Medical Mission Sisters and such.
I loved them - I was about 6 or 7.
My mother felt more like you did.

This is the version we sang at my Baptist Church - complete with motions (climbing and all). I wonder why we pronounced his name different from Catholics? I’ve noticed that with other names, too.
