With some people, you have to ask for respect. That’s what you did, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Don’t make it a big deal, and worry about being uninvited. See what happens. For her to uninvite you will make her look very bad, and she will have to divulge she put the F word on the invite.

If she has the guts to send u a card like that- a wedding invite- she also has the guts to send much worse to u either mail or email–good thing u stopped it.

Well, that’s just trashy. I keep going back and forth thinking if I would say something or not, though.

I would have sent a text like:
Is this really your wedding invitation that you sent to everyone? Super classy. You do know that people are going to be talking negatively about you, right? So, what’s the dress code to this shindig?

Depending on my mood I would have sent the text or not. My momma’s voice in my head keeps saying, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” I’m a bit blunt and people don’t like that.

I would just drop it. Right in the trash. You aren’t going to change her. Just forget about it.

I agree with the poster that said your SIL was going for shock value. It makes me curious as to whether she sent this exact same invitation to everyone on her guest list or just you to get your feathers ruffled (and induce you not to attend) 🤷

I absolutely cannot imagine that anyone in their right mind would send that type of trash out as a formal wedding invitation. Totally trashy. If she perceived that this type of invitation would be well-accepted to her guest list, then I’d totally be worried about the company I would be in at the wedding……sheesh.

UPDATE- My husband called his sister last night and said we received her invite and that I was offended. She told him she got my text, and then he dropped it. I was happy that he acknowledged it with her, because I feel like he was sticking up for me and affirming to her that that won’t be tolerated with us.

I’m sure she sent that out to everyone. Apparently, it’s going to be a small wedding with mostly friends. I imagine people in their 20s and 30s and mainly “hipster” types with no children. But still, yes, pretty low class.

Is it Catholic doctrine to meet rudeness with rudeness? Somehow I missed that Gospel.

Didn’t sound like a rude response to me. KendraDZ’s proposed text was pointing out facts, not being disrespectful at all. Just because we’re Catholic doesn’t mean we have to sit back while some relative sends us a trashy wedding invitation, incredibly disrespectful of the sacrament of marriage, without responding with our honest opinion.
