Maybe it’s not insecurity, it possibly could be just a difference in personalities. It may seem to you that she is uptight but maybe she’s just quiet and not completely comfortable with you.
Some people just don’t have personalities that get along with each other and that really doesn’t make either person the ‘bad guy’.
Granted, yelling and hollering at you was totally and completely out of line. You can’t change the type of person she is, all you can you is accept it with the
exception of how she treats you. Be firm in how yelling at you is not an option. I wouldn’t bring it up with her again because it doesn’t sound like she’s open.
What you should do is to have a frank and loving discussion with her about what sort of relationship the two of you have. Please include your brother in this.
Let her know that you want to have a sister-like relationship but would like to know how she invisions the relationship (all sisters don’t have very close relationships). Let her know that you realize she might not enjoy the type of outings you, your mom and her have, ask her if there are different types of actvities that she would prefer.
Then, just pray for her and try your best to be close to her. She might not accept your friendship or relationship with open arms at the moment, but if you show yourself to be a good support, then more than likely she’ll come to you with questions or advice when she’s ready.
As for the recieving of Holy Communion, it’s probably best to bring it up with your brother. Preface it with letting him know you understand this is a sensitive topic, but you have a concern that might also be a concern to him as well. Be gentle with it and let him know that you love him, you mean no harm to his family.
Also, what seems to help me with discussions of the faith is showing my excitement at learning Catholic teaching from the horses mouth. Share Catholic resource ideas for him to study (if you do this with shining eyes then he might not blast you)
