Hey, all.
I’ve been in a state of mortal sin (Been falling again and again into a porn/masturbation addiction). I work at a Waffle House and one of my new co-workers is a ‘born-again christian’. We started talking religion about two days ago. I told her what we believe, she told me from her bible (We both can’t remember the numbers, just some exact quotes. She says that she has all the lost books of the bible). My usual habit was: praying the rosary and divine mercy chaplet and our conversations have really taken a toll on me. She told me I needed to be born again. I remembered one way to respond was that I was born again at baptism and I am constantly being born again through confession. I recall that our Lord told us to confess our sins and Paul told us to examine our minds before recieving the Eucharist. I am very, very vulnerable in this state. I really need prayers and help. I have a meeting tommorow at 7, but I also want to get to 9:30 Confession. I’m hoping that God won’t kill me tonight or tommorow morning when I get down there and try to make confession. I really need your prayers.

I have the same problem  Rest assured, you will be in my prayers tonight. And I don’t think God would kill you if you’re in the process of converting. Hope confession makes you feel better!

I think that if these conversations are taking a toll on you, they should stop. It is not ok for a customer, employer, or coworker to try to press you into his/her own religious belief (that is the definition of prostelyzing).

IMHO, the best thing is to continue with your deepening prayer life and get a spiritual advisor. This lady doesn’t need to be it.

Blessing to you on your struggles.

Tell her that her efforts to influence you spiritually are harming you.
Then kindly ask her to stop discussing it with you.
If she persists, tell management.

Have you met one on one with your priest outside of confession? I’m sure his counseling would fair better than a co-worker who does not understand your Faith and obviously chooses not to respect it.
I will pray for you and ask for your protection during this vulnerable time. God bless you.

That should really raise a red flag lost books:confused:

John 3 New International Version (NIV)

Jesus Teaches Nicodemus
3 Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”

3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.[a]”

4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”

5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit** gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You[c] must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”[d]

9 “How can this be?” Nicodemus asked.

10 “You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things? 11 Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. 12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man.[e] 14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,[f] 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”[g]

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
TYPING IN BIG PRINT TO DIVIDE SCRIPTURE FROM MY THOUGHTS.

THE WATER WASHES AWAY THE ORIGINAL SIN OF AN INFANT AND AN ADULT. CONFIRMATION IS WHERE WE RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT WHERE WE RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT. ( IF WE ARE NOT BORN AGAIN OF WATER FOR ORIGINAL SIN AND OF SPIRIT WHICH WE RECEIVE AT CONFIRMATION. IT HAS TO DO W MATURITY OF OUR CHRONOLOGICAL AGE. EVEN W CONFIRMATION IN OUR TEENS THE GIFTS DO NOT PRESENT THEMSELVES UNLESS AS AN ADULT YOU SEEK THEM OUT AT A CHARISMATIC CONFERENCE. TEENAGERS HAVE LOWER THINGS ON THEIR MINDS. ONE GIFT IS ABUNDANT LOVE FOR OUR FELLOW MAN. ANOTHER IS THE GIFT OF TONGUES AND INTERPRETATION. THE GIFT OF HEALING. LAYING ON OF HANDS. I HAVE BEEN GRACED W SOME OF THESE GIFTS. THANK YOU JESUS.

DO NOT REPORT THAT SWEET CHRISTIAN GIRL WHO IS TRYING TO LOVE YOU TO JESUS BEYOND YOUR SIN IN TROUBLE. GOOD GRIEF WE ARE SISTERS AND BROTHERS IN THE LORD.YOU SEEMED IN PAIN AND SHE IS PRAYING FOR YOU AND TRYING TO GIVE YOU THE JESUS SHE KNOWS AND HIS PEACE.
AND AS CATHOLICS, JESUS SHOULD BE IN OUR HEARTS, GUIDING OUR EVERY STEP. HE WOULD NOT LOOK AT PORNO PHOTOS. AND YOU ARE JUDGING AN INNOCENT PROTESTANT. SHE IS HIS CHILD AND IF MY CHURCH IS PUTTING PROTESTANTS WHO HAVE BECOME MARTYRS FOR CHRIST ARE GOING TO PURGATORY, I THINK THEY HAVE TO RETHINK THAT POSITION. JESUS WILL TAKE THIS CHILD DIRECTLY UP TO HEAVEN IN HIS LOVING ARMS AFTER HE PUT THE MARTYRS HEAD BACK ON.
VaticanII
open the doors for unity w our Protestant and Orthodox brothers and sisters. Catholics killing Protestants and vice versa. 100000 Georgian Orthodox Catholic Eastern Rite believers were martyred by Tamaran and his Islamic hoards as they gave their lives for Christ at this bridge near Tblisi.Every time I go to visit my son and grandbabies, I think I couldn’t go quietly like a lamb. The river ran red w their blood. Muslims invaded them many times w the same martyrdom. I don’t say this to make you hate Islam. Georgians aren’t fond of them. Born of the Spirit. This gets you to heaven. That young friend of yours is born of the Spirit. It emboldens you to bring Jesus to others to reach out and help out others.

Because she calls herself a ‘born again Christian’ doesn’t make her an authority to listen to. As a Catholic, you are born again, just as Jesus described. Stick to your own teachings and forget what she tries to convert you to (they are like wolves among the sheep).

Don’t take her words seriously, she has no authority!

Avoid any more conversations with her, work is not the place to try to persuade someone to convert their faith. Let her know you will not discuss this any further.

Do not doubt all of your own teachings and keep building your own faith on them.

Surely God won’t punish you for not getting to confession in time, before you die, He knows your heart.

You are in my prayers … Stay focused on Our Lord and His teachings, don’t let others lead you astray.

In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit - Amen.

I agree, tell her thanks but no thanks if the talks upset you this much. And also though: for Pete’s sake, tell her that she needs to read the WHOLE passage of Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus! He said a man must be “born again OF WATER AND OF SPIRIT!” That means Baptism! That’s the ONLY sensible reading of this passage, and it’s high time someone called out the evangelical Protestant types on this bit of scripture slicing where they conveniently misquote Jesus by leaving out the entire last half of his statement!

Unless she’s ready to argue that you need to make one the “sinner’s prayer” type of prayers for spiritual rebirth while standing in a rainstorm or something in order for it to be “good” then she needs to stop leaving out the half of the quote that cements this as a reference to Baptism!

Most the time they mean well but protestants have this idea in their heads that most Catholics do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. At least you know that you were born again at Baptism. A lot of Catholics, sadly, do not even understand that. You defended the faith. Good for you. If all that happens is your beliefs are attacked by this other person, I would cease talking to them about religion anyways. But I have observed most the time that when you know how to defend your beliefs in a charitable way, they will see you cannot be swayed and leave you alone. Prayers said that you make it to confession. God bless!

Your co-worker is only interest in “getting [you] saved” and into her particular Evangelical/Fundamentalist sect, not in helping you better understand your faith. Avoid her like the plague because you are not going to get her off your back by being polite. I know from experience with this sort of proselytizing. If she won’t leave you alone talk to your supervisor/manager about the situation.

As to being addicted to porn, etc. This is a hard sin to break once it’s taken hold, isn’t it? It sounds like it’s an habitual problem for you. Talk to your confessor about it. Explain that you can’t break free of this. He is the best person to advise you. Having said that, if a sin is habitual your culpability is lessened. It’s not like you are committing these sins in defiance of Chruch teaching, but because you are hooked on them. So, don’t condemn yourself or think that because the sin is grave that you are in a state perpetual mortal sin. In order to be culpable you must be committing grave sin knowingly, and with free will. In your case your free will is hampered by being addicted. I write this to encourage you–that it’s not as bad as you think and there is hope. God is merciful and understanding. Go to confession and ask for ways to break these sinful habits. God always provides a way out of our sins. 🙂

I have good news: Went to confession! and after a nap and some miscellaneous things such as buying Beware the night and getting my clothes into the washer: I said my rosary devotion for the first time in about three or four days and did it, walking on the treadmill for forty minutes!

I worked as a nurse who was So. Baptist who went to Moody’s University. (anti Catholic) She kept going home to her Dad telling her how I lived Christ. It was nice being a light in the darkness. Even though we all know I am a sinner saved by grace. I pray you become friends. But prejudice is loved away. If it troubles your mind, say You have a spiritual
counselor in your priest. You really appreciated her sharing Jesus w you. As a Catholic Christian you want to stay w the one source of help. Offer to pray w her. Dear Father, I thank you for sending -----in my life and the spiritual help she has given me. It is nice that we Christians stand together knowing we have our well beings in our thoughts. bless our families and our work place IN JESUS MOST PRECIOUS NAME. AMEN. First of all that is what Christians do But, it shocks those who don’t look at us as Christians. Mean the prayer.

Thanks for all the hope and prayers everyone! Made it to confession! Waiting to go to next week’s confession.
