My dear friend is facing a very difficult time in her marriage. Her husband is claiming to be Christian and wants a divorce since my friend is not spiritually on the same page. The truth is, he has a girl he is interested in. It seems that he has been having an emotional affair. When my friend first told me that she and her husband were having trouble, I strongly recommended Retrouville. She looked in to it, talked to her husband, but he did not want to do it. She continued seeking counseling, retreats, spiritual directions, etc. A few months ago they found out they were pregnant, and he told her he was in love with her. Now a couple of months later, he told her he fell out of love. It sounds like he just wants to go back to being single, free, and have fun. He doesn’t want responsibility. What really gets to me is that he uses Christianity to attack her with while he is doing totally opposite of what a Christian man should be doing.

She is in bad condition. Her baby is not doing well. Her husband doesn’t seem to care about neither of them. PLEASE, PLEASE pray for her and her family. I have been praying for them but I think the devil is really working hard on breaking up this family…

From the way you describe it, it sounds like the guy is just looking for an excuse to cheat and unloading him would be nothing more than a loss of dead weight. I don’t think you can help this guy change if he doesn’t want to change. Your best bet is to pray that God takes this into His hands and makes it work out for your friend. You could also help her protect herself and her child financially by recommending she get an attorney.

I know I can’t change his mind. I’m not in a place to do that either. I am, though, carefully choosing my words to encourage my friend not to give up. As a friend and a Catholic Christian, I feel obligated to do that, not to intrude their marital issues, but to help them stay together. What’s funny (not really) is that he thinks he is being a Christian and wanting a divorce and my friend who claims to be not religious is fighting to save her marriage…

I am praying hard for them to stay strong and work together to save their marriage…

Your friend’s husband could certainly stand to read Malachi 2, but I doubt he’d have an open mind about it. 😦

Praying for her and the baby.
