My brother was killed in Iraq in September 07. He had a wife, a son and a step-son. I just found out today through my husband, (who was talkign to my sister-in-law) that she is now dating his best friend. He is also a Marine. It’s not that I’m disappointed that they are dating, although I can’t be sure how serious they are since he lives in Georgia and she lives in Texas, I’m just bummed out because I think this is just a reminder that he is gone. I guess it’s ultimately the final thing that is possibly to be closed, her getting married/dating again. I can’t say that i’m upset or mad or hurt or anything like that. I’m not in her shoes and so I can’t say that if my husband died I wouldn’t be ready to date again that soon after his death, nor can i say that it woudl take me like 5 years to date again. I guess there was just that little shred of evidence that he was here on this earth at one point in time with her being single. And now it just feels like that book (my brother and his life) is being closed all over again and it hurts.:console: Ugg.

I am sorry beenwashed… That must be hard to see. I too have a brother in the military that has done 5 tours in the middle-east. It would be terribly hard to lose him too. While I might think it is a bit early to be dating too… there are some men and some women who just need to be in a relationship. When I was in the military I saw alot of this. I think the kind of person that needs to be in a relationship is naturally attracted to military types so it is more prevalent there.

Don’t feel bad or sad… your brother most likely wouldn’t want her to be alone right? Take it as an affirmation of his desire for her and be happy. It is OK to miss a loved one… just don’t stop living too.

I’m deeply sorry for the loss of your brother, and I will not forget the sacrifice your family has made. Your brother was a great American.

The feelings you have about your SIL dating are normal. I wouldn’t beat yourself up about it. My guess she is young and has a lot of life left to live, just wish her the best in what ever path she chooses to go down.

Your brother has a son that I’m sure is in the image of his father, he also lives on in the memory of all of y’all. His legacy will be around for a very long time, and nothing is going to change that.

Interesting you say that his son is the image of his father. It’s almost as if he has been re-born again with how much alike they both looked at that age.

🙂
