IN need of references to prove the one true Church

Hello,

I am just curious if anybody knows of any good references to prove these crucial points that I will encounter trying to prove the one true Church.

1,) The Catholic Church and possibly the Orthodox canonized the bible and kept the original OT. Essentially, they made the bible into a book for everyone to read because the guidance of the Holy Spirit guided the creation of this infallible document.

2.) The Catholic Church is the descendant of the apostles.

3.) How Rock equals the role of the papacy.

4.)How the disagreements between Orthodoxy and Catholicism are still strong and disuniting? All I know is the papacy is a rather large component and the filioque can be agreed upon in some circles because it means the same.

Please respond with respect for I am not the greatest Church historian.

Hey fish, do you know about Scripture Catholic? There are tons of quotes there from Scripture and the early Church for all of your questions and other Church teachings. Good luck!

well the bible was in one piece for a while til Mr. Martin Luther got his hands on it, lol
 
some of these are loaded statements though I wonder where the basis for the questions came about…I’d like to continue this later because I’m tired & going to bed now, but it sounded like some of the questions were good questions & some may be the result of maybe talking to a catholic that gave you bum dope perhaps? I’ll get with you tomorrow…I’ll ttyl.
 
I would say the Institution of the Holy Eucharist was all the proof necessary in that the Catholic Priest is the ONLY Minister with the power to act in Personae Christi and therefore we have the Real Presence of Christ. Hope this helps.

Discerning the Church which Christ founded.

There are a few things we know about this true church:
  1. It was built by Jesus Christ himself (Matt 16:18) which means that the “true church” must be about 2000 years old.
  2. Jesus only built ONE church (Matt 16:18).
  3. This church is the God-ordained upholder, protector and defender of the truth (1 Tim 3:15).
  4. This Church is the fullness of Christ (Eph 1:22-23) which means that it is also the fullness of truth (John 14:6).
  5. The Church which Jesus Christ founded is the one to whom He revealed and who declared and decreed which books are to be contained in the New Testament. (Canon of the New Testament declared by Pope Damasus I at the council of Rom A.D. 382.)
 
I came into trouble with another issue. When people come to you and start questioning the legitimacy of the Church they usually talk about the Crusades, the Inquisition and the corruption before the reformation. My friend and I were arguing why Luther was excommunicated and my friend brought up another topic from his history class. He said the Church back then had the authority to legitimize illegitimate children. Is this true and does anybody know of other questionable topics from which I can prepare myself in being a good Catholic?
