In various Encyclicals and other Papal documents, I have found the phrase “In Perpetual Remembrance”. After having read Mortalium Animos, I am now reading Apostolicae Curae. The latter begins in this way:
Apostolicae Curae
ON THE NULLITY OF ANGLICAN ORDERS
Promulgated 18 September 1896 by Pope Leo XIII
In Perpetual Remembrance
What exactly is the meaning of that phrase? It obviously bears some significance, since it is “perpetual”. Could it have something to do with an infallible teaching proclaimed by the Pope? I can’t make out the typical “infallible wording”, though…
- We have dedicated to the welfare of the noble English nation no small portion of the Apostolic care and charity…
