I am a “cradle Catholic” that recently returned to the Church after being a lapsed Catholic for many years. Upon returning to the Faith, I came to realize that there is a great deal that I don’t know about Church teaching. I bought a few books, including The Catechism of the Catholic Church, which I am now studying.
In several places I have come across the abbreviation “cf.”, which is almost always followed by a reference to Sacred Scripture or some other reference. (e.g., “cf. Lk 22:32” or “cf. St. Ignatius of Antioch, Ad Trall, 3,1”) This may be a dumb question, but what does the abbreviation “cf.” mean?
Thank you.
