In the name of the Holy Spirit

We normally begin prayers by saying “In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”.

Then often times we ask of the Father in Jesus’ name.

But do we ever ask in the name of (only or especially) the Holy Spirit?

Actually there is a time and place to invoke the Holy Spirit. During the celebration of the sacrament of Confirmation is just one such time that comes to mind.

I personally ask for the assistance of the Holy Spirit when I know I need to have the right words to use, like when I am talking to someone at the Crisis Pregnancy Center I volunteer at or when speaking with my children about certain issues such as sexuality or schooling or whatever their emotional well being or future might be tied up in.

A priest may elect to say Votive Masses during the week. If he chooses to say one on Thursday, he may use Votive Mass of the Holy Ghost or Mass to Obtain the Grace of the Holy Ghost.

I personally pray the, “Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of your love…” prayer. I invoke the help of the Holy Spirit whenever I see it appropriate-- especially as regards the gifts of the Holy Spirit (i.e., wisdom, understanding, etc.), or before prayer (for the Holy Spirit teaches us to pray).

While I do often pray directly to the Holy Spirit and ask for guidance, when I address prayer to the Father, it is usually in Jesus’s precious name. He taught us to ask for our needs in His name, and it is through Him, with Him, and in Him, that we give honor and glory to God. (Remember that lovely prayer during our Mass?)

Remember that we are the temples of the Holy Sprit; He resides within us - call on Him (Come, Holy Spirit!) whenever you feel the need of spiritual help - in times of temptation, stress, danger, etc., and any time you need an uplifting of spirit.

IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, AND OF THE SON, AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. And I can first thank God for keeping me in the Catholic faith all my life. I have learned to know Jesus thru reading the Bible and walking with Him when He calls. I thought I knew the Holy Spirit from Confirmation & always seemed to call on Him when there was an emergency. But the last 1 1/2 yr. I have been a Charismatic Catholic. I have gotten to know the Holy Spirit in ways I never imajined!!! You thought that you received gifts at Confirmation?? The Holy Spirit wants to make you holy & stay holy & make you will feel so joyous that you wont believe it! These are spiritual gifts, of coarse. There is so much to know & learn.
So when you are calling out all 3 NAMES, they are seperate, but all ONE IN THE SAME. THE MOST HOLY TRINITY. And we beleive this because of FAITH. Sincerely, Franny
