Can someone tell me what does a Byzantine Rite deacon do during the modern papal mass. thanks.🙂

The only thing I can think that the Eastern deacon wearing his Cuffs, Sticharion, and Orarion would do at a Papal mass would be to read the Gospel in Greek (or in one case I watched, Slavonic) with Byzantine ceremonial at a mass celebrating canonization of saints, and then return the Gospel book to the Pope, who would then bless the people with it as the choir sang, “Eis polla eti, Despota” (For many years, O Master).

There was a blog post on a good blog , I forgot which one, about the role of the Greek Deacon at Papal Masses. What I could gather from the article, was that the current rubrics do not actually have set in stone what the Greek Deacon does. Each time one is used, the rubrics have been slightly different, so I read. I would enjoy a greater use of the Greek Deacon at Papal Masses : )

I believe you are referring to the blog The New Liturgical Movement. The post in question is linked below.

No, it was pulled from another blog where it originally appeared I beleive.

The link I posted does have a link to another blog, where that article was originally posted. At any rate, it’s a good article that may help the OP.
