A MINI Reflection:
The theology of the body will explain this great mystery in far greater depth. In effect, Our Late Holy Father has given the greatest modern treasure to humanity in the Theology of the Body. God deliberately created us sexual in order to manifest the greatest of all mysteries of existence, and of our final end, which is Love, the possession of the Love of the Trinity for ever.
For just as the from the Father proceeded the Son from all eternity, the Son being of Equal Divine Substance, so from Adam came Eve, of equal immeasurable dignity. And just as the Love between Father and Son from all eternity burst forth into a Third Person, still also fully Divine, the Holy Spirit, so then the total self-giving and receiving and abandoning love between husband and wife becomes a third person, a child, of equal immeasurable dignity.
therefore, human sexuality reveals the Trinity, the central mystery of the Christian faith. It was to share in this DIvine Family of LOve that man was created. But so then, our sexuality is NOT the final end, it just POINTS to the final end. The final end is the SPIRITUAL wedding between God and the Church. Earthly marriage but FORESHADOWS the ultimate marriage between us as children and God. In the end, all of us who pesevere in love shall be married to God in an unending spiritual orgasm. Just as man totally offers himself to woman, and she fully receives him, and offers herself whole and entire back, in intimacy not merely physical but also spiritual, so God the Trinity will fully offer himself to us individually and collectively, and we shall fully receive him and offer ourselves back, and this intimate exchange of love between us and God, in intellect and will, will never end, again, an eternal orgasm.
and the unity and love and profound oneness in man and woman on earth is nothing compared to what shall be in the Resurrection. IN the Resurrection, man and woman that had hitherto been literal spouses on earth shall be brother and sister in a union that immeasurably transcends even the most intimate marital acts on earth that they ever had. For the former husband shall know every instant of his wife’s existence while on earth, where she was with God, where she failed, where the LOrd lifted her up again, and carried her in the deepest of trials. Every grace and intimacy in every instant she breathed will be known, understood, rejoiced in. And similarly the wife shall know all these things of her husband, and every human creature that ever existed, shall know the same things of all other creatures.
So in the end, the physical union of man and wife on earth only foreshadows what shall be in the New Creation, where the righteous shall be perfectly united to one another and to God forever.
