Most Anglicans consider themselves Catholic… Most Episcoplians consider themselves Protestant…

You may ask, what is the difference? It’s who you choose as the leader of your church…

Episcopalians generally choose the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Anglicans (mostly) are trying to follow Rome (either in spirit or directly) and make the Church what is was prior to King Henry VIII.

Episcopalians generally believe the Eucharist is what ever you want it to be… Could be the body and blood of Christ or could just be a symbol…

Anglicans believe the Eucharist is the body and blood of Christ.

My answer is purly on observations and can not be documented.

WillB,

Episcopalians are Anglicans.

God Bless!

I stand corrected…

Episcopalians are Anglicans but Anglicans are not always Episcopalians…
Were you thinking of the fact that many former Episcopalians who have left the Episcopal Church over doctrinal issues, are organised into traditionally oriented jurisdictions, and call them selves “Anglicans”?

I say they are both Catholic and Protestant, because the members who make them up are generally falling one way or the other in doctrine and belief. I would say the same thing of the members of the RCC, especially here in the USA. Some of the most protestant people I’ve ever met are card carrying members of the RCC, lol.

What you have said is true in the USA… Outside the USA, especially in Africa, they have split with Canterbury many, many years ago… … Also in the USA, there are Anglicans who split from Canterbury in the 1960s…

In the US I’m aware of one group that split, roughly 1962. They’re now the APA, IIRC. In the rest of the world, I’m not, until after, roughly, the St. Louis meeting in 1978, which led to the first of the major Continuum Churches. What do you know of splits in Africa, from Canterbury, pre- 1978?

Do these Anglicans believe that using artificial birth control is a mortal sin?

I guess it depends on what one considers “Catholic” as well as what one considers “Anglican”. Lots of “Anglicans” are a lot LIKE “Catholics”. But you really can’t be Catholic without being Catholic.

Since the King or Queen at coronation takes an oath “to preserve the Protestant religion of the Church of England by law established,” what do YOU think?

I think the Church of England does not exhaust the concept “Anglican”.

We had a pollster call the house today regarding the National Election and State Election and at the end of the conversation demographic questions were asked. One of the questions was what church do you belong to and I responded with the Episcopal Church. The lady said " That is Protestant, correct?" I thought back to this question and said “Can I only choose one answer?” and she said “Yes”. The following question was “Do you consider yourself a Born Again Christian?” With that I responded as a good Episcopalian “You bet, over and over again!”👍

God Bless!

I attend an Anglican Church… And, yes we believe that artificial birth control is a mortal sin… We follow the magisterium of the Roman Church on all things that pertain to salvation. I can’t answer for all Anglican Churches…

I recall years ago hearing W.F. Buckley (whose wife was Anglican) say the Anglican Church is so eclectic that no one, from the Pope to Mao Tse Tung, could say with any degree of certainty that he is NOT an Anglican.

I have quoted that before to Anglicans, and have not seen any take umbrage from it. Rather, it seems more like a “family joke”, in the same sort of way Southern Baptists say “I’m not a member of any organized religion, I’m a Southern Baptist”. I trust no one here will be offended. If so, I apologize in advance.

No reason for anyone to take offense, (though your concern does you credit). I’ve often quoted Buckley (one of my heroes) on that.

If you don’t mind me asking, if you follow the Magisterium on faith and morals, why wouldn’t you be Catholic?

God Bless
