In your pro-life work, do you show people photos of aborted babies?

I think the key word here that keeps getting used is “some”. The posters I don’t think work very well. People who may never have been involved with the abortion debate may get angry with pro-lifers who show their children these photos. And that doesn’t help anything.

It may be a needed wake-up call for some, but others may see it as disrespectful to the child, or simply find them gross (which isn’t necessarily helpful).
to get angry over someone showing children the images is understandable… i’d b angry if someone showed my child those pictures…

but to become or stay pro-abort because of that is the height of silliness…

again, people go to Hell because they do not live the truth…

People respond much better to simpler and rational methods, forcing pornographic gore on them is not rational. Nor do I want my children to see such a thing, they are plenty prolife without it.
how can u compare the truth of abortion to pornography??

that makes NO sense to me… your just resorting to hyperbole to try 2 drown out the voice of those who… care about truth & care about stopping the slaughter…

is my opinion…

As someone with quite a few relatives who are decidedly pro-abortion, I can say that for the most part, pro-abortion people who see these photos are more and more convinced that the pro-life movement “doesn’t really care about people” that the pro-life movement is heartless and utterly without a logical or natural defense, the pro-life movement has to “shock” with ugly images instead of convince. I’ve known people get angry after being shown these images, and I’ve also known people to look at the images, talk to the pro-lifer and then run to the nearest Planned Parenthood and donate money, or sign up to help.

It’s better, really, to show images of the child, unhurt. So that the person can connect in someway - human to human, not simply turn away in disgust.

Blessings,
Masha

pro-aborts put their emotions above truth… their emotions & the fact that they like the idea that if their sexual perversion results in an “inconvenience” they can get rid of it…

they live for this world alone… but hey… Know what??

we all have to die some day… maybe they need to think about that … but then again, they are not so much into thinking as emoting…

I have mixed feelings about the use of such imagery. Personally I find it disgusting and offensive. But then what it depicts IS disgusting and offensive! So I see the point of showing how despicable abortion is.

About 11 years ago, a group used protest in my city wearing sandwich boards of these images as they said the rosary outside a downtown abortuary. I gave them a $5 donation one day. They gave some pamphlets, half about abortion and half about conspiracy theories about Bill Clinton and the UN.

God bless

Tony

***I agree with distracted’s view. Adults (not children) need the wake-up call. The movies that were taken of the holocaust death camps in Germany and Poland and Austria should still be shown to German citizens as a history lesson they must never forget. That is why the pictures were taken, to document what most people don’t want to know up close and personal. Some people still deny it happened. In America some people still deny the American holocaust.

How can you feel for the babies when you cannot really see the cruelty done to them?

How can you really summon up the outrage to do something about it without seeing the outrageous crime in person?

"For some individuals with stubborn or cold hearts, those pictures may be the wake-up call they need***."
thanks… the thing is Nazi Germany never ended… more people have been killed in abortion than in Nazi Germany & Stalinist russian combined… probably more than that number combined w/ deaths in WWI & II…

& if u look @ the worldwide rate of abortion, then i KNOW the number is WAY higher than all the wars in hisotry combined…

those people who claim to be offended by the images are just trying to stop the pro-life people, who … most of whom care about such things as offendign people… Ironically, the pro-death people do not give a rip about offendiing people… nothing more offensive than murdering a defenseless innocent chld…:mad:😦 Yet they try to use pro-life peoples’ admittedly praiseworhty trait of not wanting to offend… to stop them…

no wonder there is a Hell & there are, as Jesus said, “Many who go therein…” (st Mt 7:13… Lk 13:24)

Yep.

Some of us have no trouble feeling for babies, or working up the motivation to do pro-life work, without looking at gruesome photos of them dismembered. And I find in my pro-life work that the photos of healthy children are far more effective motivators for others, too.
presentation means nothing
Fortunately, I prefer the guidance of the Apostles to this.

they do more good than harm i don’t think anyone advocates giving them to young chidlren.
There is a pro-life organization in my city that for some reason thinks it’s a good idea to drive a big truck around with these images on it, and for some reason they consider it a good idea to send this truck around to children’s events, where little children (age 3, 4, 5) will certainly see them.

I completely disagree with this strategy. In my own ministry, I talk about the normal and healthy development of the child, and I talk about the fact that we all received our human soul at the moment of conception, because God was creating us on purpose, to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this life, and to be happy with Him forever in the next.

The pictures are misleading. The pictures are always of third trimester abortion, which accounts for only a tiny amount of actual abortions. Nearly 90% of abortions occur in the first trimester. A picture of that would be identical in appearance to what women see every month in their usual flow.

10-12 weeks is still the first trimester, is it not? Most of the images I’ve seen are of infants at 10 weeks of gestation. They already look like little people, by then. 🙂

People who support abortion are still people; like many pro-lifers, some do put their emotions above truth, but some don’t. Many don’t even engage in “sexual perversions” and many don’t live for “this world alone”, they simply don’t realize that there is a better way. People who view them en mass, and not as individuals, are the reason so many abotion supports are repulsed by the pro-life movement and repulsed by the Truth behind the movement. Truth can be presented badly, just as evil can be sold as a good. We ought to be trying as best we can to speak the truth in love, not smear it in the faces of those who disagree with us.

I think your Bible has been tampered with…

There must be an awful place in hell prepared for those so-called “physicians” who make their living tearing apart thousands of babies babies limb from limb.

Bloody evil.

Umm, it offends pro-life people, not just pro-choice people. Some people feel it is disrespectful to the child. Some people just don’t want to see that.

It’s not your place to make this judgment. Jesus’ time with tax collectors and prostitutes should make you realize that not everything is as cut and dry as it seems.

The term pornographic does not always mean sexual films or pictures. It can mean anything extremely graphic, food, violence, art, gore, etc, etc.

As again, its a turn off, its repulsive, and irrational. You also cannot compare these to images from the Holocaust, people did not need to see those pictures to know what went on in those camps was wrong, they are also not as graphic as these abortion pictures are. Abortion has been a dirty secret of mankind since man came about, forcing gory pictures to people is not going to stop anything.

Unlike prostitutes and tax collectors, nobody has ever been kidnapped and forced into the life of an abortionist - it’s a field that they choose to go into, as opposed to family medicine, etc.

since it does good…

since it prevents more death…

since it makes our country more pro-life…

it is the act of murder that is offensive, not telling people, or showing people that this is really going on (etc…)…

too bad it isn’t so offensive that people outlaw it…
We don’t hold up graphic poster images of murdered 9 year old, 10 year old, and 11 year old children to “prevent more death and abuse” of children…So why is it acceptable to do that in the case of a child at 9 weeks, 10 weeks or 11 weeks gestation? It doesn’t respect the “human” dignity of the victim and that too, is offensive.

If there is a better way, that involves respecting the dignity of the person, then that should be utilized first. imho

I find it very effective to show the healthy child at various stages of development, to relate it to the audience by saying, “This is what you looked like when you were only a few days old in the womb”) and to explain to them that they had a soul, and that God had a purpose for their lives, at the very moment of conception.
