Yes something should be done about those ads. If an ad blocker is used to block them, CAF blocks us.
I regard it as quite hypocritical too as I was recently suspended and the reason in the note sent to me was sexually explicit / obscene posts. Mods are not responding when I request the specific post / words that were classified as sexually explicit or obscene.

Its a bit hypocritical to be suspending members with no specific example that was supposedly posted, but to allow obscene ads in order for CAF to make revenue.

I don’t see many ads on CAF. Are atheists exempted from this sort of thing? But recently on the Washington Post site I have been plagued with ads for beekeeping equipment.

I’m getting plenty of ads for Catholic Chemistry dating, and very few if any ads for holiday apparel.

I’ve never gotten that, but I am so curious WHY you would get it.

No I’m getting it too, with absolutely no reason for something like that to be suggested on my browser.
Such a distasteful ad

Because this forum has “lost control of its movie”, as Ken Kesey used to say.

There is another one involving a woman in a Christmas micro-mini and no bloomers.

At least two regular, decent posters here, one of whom primarily posted in the Prayer Intentions forum, have been suspended for reposting pictures of these ads for discussion. So don’t repost the ads.

They’re coming up in a lot of people’s browsers who do not view porn, including mine (not on this site because I’m a patron and thus don’t get ads here, but the same picture is coming up on other sites where I am forced to look at ads). The only remotely similar photo that’s been in my browser in months was the one on the article about the Pope’s twitter account “liking” some model’s softcore porn photo. I suppose it’s also possible that viewing the reposted ads that the two people I mentioned above had put in threads so folks could talk about the ad being on here caused some cookie to be set in my browser so that the ad now pops up on websites where I am forced to see ads.

I remember this happening for another site. It’s not our viewing habits causing it, and indeed an absence of viewing habits makes it more likely to happen. These are default ads coming through AdChoice.

Here’s an experiment. Do a little bit of window shopping on home depot, lumber liquidators, and wayfair, see if you start getting advertisements for the things you were looking for instead of the offensive ads. Earlier in the year I bought some baseboards and the invasive ads (in that case it was ones for designer lace masks) were replaced by baseboard ads for a few days.

Those designer lace masks are quite funny. Especially the fishnet one with the sparkles.

That one doesn’t seem too effective for covid protection. 🤓

It amazing to me that there are still people around who buy into the idea that data mining is useful for advertising. It’s shown itself to not only to be completely ineffective, but it’s also turning into a PR nightmare, and likely one of the main reasons that the big tech companies’ days are numbered.

If marketing can figure out that you want baseboards before you buy them then they might have something. It’s funny when people see ads about things that they just bought online. It really speaks to the culture that is in tech right now. On one level it is quite entertaining to watch the tech era unfold in such an undignified, bumbling way. On the other hand, it’s a little scary how much money and power that tech has amassed, and that the average person is still gobbling it all up like “it’s all good”, so to speak.

I see add for shoes and clothes… definitely better than what some see.

You can stop this add and report it to your search engine, if it is like me…
It will be replace by something else…
