I was over my friends house and they were flipping through the channels and they left
on Superbad. We sat their and watched some of it, I never saw it cause I’m not big on movies like that. I knew what to expect, but whatever I’m mature enough to take it. However, while we were watching it, my friends neighbors, two kids about 10 and 8 came over and we continued to watch.

The 10 year old had shockingly already saw the movie, the 8 yr old i doubt it. So my friends were joking around about how they kids shouldn’t be watching it but didn’t change the channel. I tried to distract the younger one for alittle while then finally got everybody to go outside and play. However, we probably sat there about 20 minutes, heards numerous f-bombs, but no nudity (thank God). However, now I feel terrible about it. Even though I wasn’t really into the movie to begin with, I feel I wasn’t aggressive at all in changing the channel. It seems to have had no effect on the eight year old, but I keep thinking of Jesus saying that (paraphrasing) it would be better to have a block tied to you and be thrown into the ocean than to cause these little ones to stumble. I’m sure it wasn’t the first time either of the kids saw an r-rated movie but I feel really bad about it. Your thoughts?

Your friends’ judgement is impaired. I probably would have left if that was possible.

Years ago, I was at a Bette Midler movie. There was a funny part…an adult funny part…when all of a sudden there was this laugh from a little kid. You could feel the mood in the theatre change. My friend and I wondered what nitwit parents would bring their kid to this movie. I think many at the show were thinking the same.

Typically many so-called adults-only movies are really bad for everybody. I mean, what good will it do an adult to hear the f-word a thousand times in a row? Is that comedy? I don’t think so.😦

If you feel so badly about it, bring it to the confessional 🙂 Then next time you can do something.

It’s inappropriate. They put ratings on movies for a reason, but they cannot make a parent pay attention to them. I hate to say it, but an 8 year old has no business watching such a movie and those parents are in a world of dim bulbs about 3 watts each.

I have to agree with this. And I think the suggestion of bringing it to the confessional is a really good one. It must be so hard to figure out exactly how to handle a situation like that! I don’t think you have anything to feel guilty about, but I get the feeling that you do so the confessional may give you peace of mind about it.
