Hey was anyone else offended by the fact that it has become normal in our culture to have a women during the so called “family event” of the Super bowl strutting up and down the stage in tight black lingerie and shaking her butt constantly in front of the cameras? I know lots of people watch the Super Bowl with young children and teens and the only thing I could think was “this is entirely inappropriate.” Seriously, the superbowl is even broadcast early in the evening, so the argument can’t be made that it is intended for mature audiences.

It is amazing that women are accepting of this kind of objectification.

Agreed. I found that much worse than the “wardrobe malfunction” of Janet Jackson a few years ago. I changed the channel until the game resumed.

Whoever said that the Super Bowl was “family television”? The half time show didn’t come on around 9pm, right? What were all those small children doing up watching TV at that hour on a school night?

News flash folks-TV networks are not supposed to be parenting your children. YOU ARE.

and for those adults who found it objectionable, the actions of the poster above is how to handle it. Turn the channel until it’s over-every fan knows that Super Bowl halftime lasts about 30 minutes. There’s always the Puppy Bowl!

The power outage was WAY more interesting.

I think the last time I enjoyed a halftime show was when The Who performed (I also like Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty… see a pattern yet?)

On the other hand, it was a great time to go to the bathroom and replenish the snacks!

Hey Seeker PLEASE

The Super Bowl started at 6:30 pm. Dinner time here east coast. And I didn’t watch it at my house. Nor did I watch it with any children present. The entire Super Bowl the NFL was running ads featuring children about how they were trying to make the game safer, about how it is a family game. Also the Children’s choir from Sandy Hook I doubt left after singing America the Beautiful so they had to watch it.

Lay off on the lectures about how I can turn the channel and all that. That wasn’t my point.

Wow, sorry to bring up a simple solution to your problem.

Have a nice day.

Why would you believe all women accepted of this kind of objectification??? An all inclusive, broad statement, doesn’t speak for all women. 😦

It’s a solution that would have been unavailable for the children present at the game for starters.
But the half time show didn’t come on at 6:30 and nobody removed the channel changers after the game started.

I like Beyonce so I left it on, but I’ve bounced over to the Puppy Bowl other years. I bounced during the Go Daddy commercial because I always hate those, and from what I’ve heard today about it I’m glad I did.

I don’t expect the media to adjust to my desires and sensitivities, I take responsibility for that myself.

Well, the halftime show wasn’t any worse than most of the commercials. It wasn’t worse than most things on TV in general anymore. Not saying it was any better, but it’s far from being any worse.

I have to agree with Seeker on this.

Change the channel, turn it off, etc. Turn it back on 30 minutes later.

As far as any children that may have been at the venue itself,

Do you have any idea how expensive those tickets are? I’m sure there weren’t too many kids in the crowd, and if there were, they would have been too far away to see anything.

During half time, is when everybody lines up for the restrooms, and concession stands. I’m sure the kids from Sandy Hook were running around checking everything out, and not watching the show.

If the show was that horrible, and all there was was “butt” shaking, don’t you think the media would be ripping it apart? Haven’t heard anything about it, have you?

Personally, I didn’t watch it, don’t care about it

I will bet you I found more offensive material on the other 300 channels on my satellite dish than you saw during Super Bowl.

Remember, the Super Bowl only started at 6:30pm for one time zone. The U.S. has four of them (not including Alaska and Hawaii). So in much of the country, the half-time show started earlier.

Obviously, we can just change the channel. I always exercise that option – I never watch the halftime show myself. But that doesn’t mean we need stand idly by and simply accept whatever show they offer without complaint. If something is indecent, we can certainly call it out as indecent.

PUPPY BOWL!👍 A great way to spend half time.😃

Even my English Bulldog was watching puppy bowl:cool:

I thought the Go Daddy commercial was terrible…gross in fact.

Channel surfer during the halftime show…so won’t comment on that.

I did like the Dodge commercial about the Farmer

I thought it was obscene and not necessary. Anyone who thinks that families aren’t watching the biggest game of the year is delusional. I shouldn’t have to expect to turn off soft porn during the superbowl.

Not offended - annoyed and disappointed, yes.
I know lots of people watch the Super Bowl with young children and teens and the only thing I could think was “this is entirely inappropriate.”
I agree with this - it was totally inappropriate, and was embarrassing to view with the grown adults in the room!!

Anything, at any time, on any channel, is fair game for offensive content. The hours of adult content (and even the definition of what constitutes adult content) are long gone decades ago.
It is amazing that women are accepting of this kind of objectification.
Who said that “women are accepting”??? That is an extremely broad generalization that I do not feel is even close to accurate. My own mother, who is a liberal feminist, HATES shows like this because of the objectification of women and sexualization through skimpy dressing. So making the presumption that “women are accepting” does not accurately paint this picture. There are some women out there who are perfectly happy with selling themselves to men (and advertisers) who use them to look at and ogle over, and men who are willing to pay for that privilege. Please don’t lump the rest of us in with that crowd.

Nope - I’m done, thanks.

Here in Western Canada the game started at 3:00 pm and the half-time show was around 5:00 pm. Hardly bedtime for children.

Certainly we can all exercise the right not to watch something. For me the larger issue is that women with incredible talent are not allowed to simply display that talent. There is a huge amount of pressure to also be sexy. As the though her abilities aren’t enough. I’m also not sure how much choice the female artist has over things like costumes and choreography. I imagine they have people (managers, etc.) making these decisions for them.

Yes, the show was clearly about showing as much skin as possible. And it is amazing that younger women or even girls would look at this and think it’s OK. That the singer makes a lot of money and showing off your body like that is something to aspire to.

Without parental guidance, girls and boys are led astray.

And why aren’t women complaining? For decades, the radical feminists were obviously lying when they said men treating women as “sex objects” was wrong. Oh, I know there were a few pockets of radical feminism that did protest but nothing came of it. And what about individual women? Ladies, it’s time to be ladies - it’s time to forget about the “modern” concept of a woman who would allow herself to be turned into an object - modesty and decency are parts of human dignity. Without them, women are viewed as just a collection of body parts.

Peace,
Ed

Actually, it was inappropriate for any adult male as well, or at least ones who actually value women as human beings, instead of objects.

I was at a Superbowl party put on by our parish Men’s Club. We had the game up on the big screen in the parish hall.

Our pastor shut off the projector when Beyoncé came on.

We applauded when he did that.

(side note, my browser autocorrect automatically put the accent mark on her name, that was cool)
