Hi, I wanted to share a concern about an inappropriate Vicorious episode on Nickelodean, & I thought I would do that here in a parenting forum instead of Popular Media. I had been noticing that some of the content on icarly & Victorious has been inappropriate for kids. My kids are teens so I let them continue watching, but I would worry about younger viewers & some of the content. Tonight’s episode of Victorious called The Breafast Bunch was over the top. It was a parody of The Breakfast Club. It was wildly inappropriate for kids.
To be honest, I loved The Breakfast Club when I was 20, but I never thought I’d be discussing the drug use in it with my 14 year old. If I had seen this parody on a show for adults, I would have found it very entertaining. It was very well done if you were feeling sentimental about 80’s movies. The Judd Nelson character was JUST like him… We did not see the whole thing, just long enough that I had to explain the pot reference & the reference that kept comparing vegans to virgins.
My family had a teachable moment. Other 8-12 year olds are going to tease to watch the movie that was hyped to them, or just watch it themselves. I tried to contact Nickelodean to voice my concern, but the only contact info was to voice a safety concern about the nick.com site. I left a message there, but I am not sure it will ever reach the correct department or the TV network.
Also, while at the nick.com site I clicked on a link that said parent connection & ended up at a site called nickmoms.com. It looked like part of the official nick site, but I am not sure it was. The 2nd time I went there, a window popped up that said I was leaving nick, but the 1st time there was no such warning. Like I said, it seemed like official nick .com, & there was typical stuff there about great moms connecting & supporting each other, but there were also articles entitled mom p-rn & something about euphemisms for adult topics. The content was REALLY inappropriate for kids(Although I can’t really describe it here & I don’t know how to provide a link.) I worry thet kids might happen upon it just as I did.
Does anyone know how you can contact a TV network like Nick when they don’t have an online contact, or how you can find out who their advertisers are? Thanks so much for letting me vent!
