Today, at Mass during the incensation of the faithful, some of the people genuflected as the priest passed by w/ the thurifer filled with incense. what is this? i found it rather nice to see, in fact…
This is correct. After the priest or deacon bows toward the congregation after incensing them, we bow back toward them.In the Latin rite, the norm has always been bowing before and after being incensed, never genuflecting.
Bitter, sir? That’s the reason why, if you go to a “modern” Catholic Church which doesnt have the tabernacle in the Sanctuary where it belongs, you never see anyone genuflect.
Quite bitter, against anyone who is too ashamed of Our Lord to have Him in the Sanctuary, but chooses instead to put Him in some side closet.Bitter, sir?![]()
Agreed!Quite bitter, against anyone who is too ashamed of Our Lord to have Him in the Sanctuary, but chooses instead to put Him in some side closet.![]()
I really don’t care for Jesus to be “in the Sanctuary” with the priest’s back to Him while the priest is working to confect Him on the altar.Quite bitter, against anyone who is too ashamed of Our Lord to have Him in the Sanctuary, but chooses instead to put Him in some side closet.![]()
There’s another solution besides moving the tabernacle.I really don’t care for Jesus to be “in the Sanctuary” with the priest’s back to Him while the priest is working to confect Him on the altar.
