Salvation is a major element of Christianity. But your assertion people are WORKING THEIR WAY to salvation is a complete misconception.

So, I suppes the inquisition never happened, neither did the crusades and so on. they are all from novels by Dan Brown or others. Everything that is good about Catholicism is history while everything that is bad about Catholicism is made up?

As to moving the goalposts, that’s apparently your experience. Please refer to the Catechism if you want to know what Catholics believe.

Most Catholics nowadays do not know what the Cathechism says. I have already said that nowadays established Catholic teaching is far more humane than it used to be. What Catholics belive nowadays says nothing about what Catholics believed for centuries before that.

That people believe they can work their way to salvation is not relevant to your premise that this is what Christianity teaches. It does not.

That the Inquisition happened or that the Crusades happened does not indicate that we currently have Catholics or other Christians who are pushing for a theocracy by force. You have zero evidence of this so are reduced to reaching back into distant history.

I have no idea why you rejected whatever (apparently misguided) teaching you received. I don’t know if you had a bad experience with Catholics. I never made either statement.

As to rational behavior, I am guided by the Church’s teaching particularly with respect to life issues. I was ignorant of these truths and originally rejected them. Now I know better. If that is using the rational mind, ok. God gave me a brain and I use it. So how does that reality force you to reject a belief in God?

As to the “god you don’t believe in” it sounds like you do not believe in an incoherent personal god. I don’t either.

I have never claimed that this is what Christianity teaches but it is a fact that lots of Chrsitians who pretend to act out of selfless love actually act out of frear for eternal punishment or out of a wish for eternal reward, so they are in fact being selfish.

That the Inquisition happened or that the Crusades happened does not indicate that we currently have Catholics or other Christians who are pushing for a theocracy by force. You have zero evidence of this so are reduced to reaching back into distant history.

I have never claimed that we currently have such Christians, but we used to have them for centuries. And although it isn’t official teaching of any of the major Christian faiths, there are lots of indivduals who hold such views.
And I may have to reach some distance into the past for a literal conquering by the sword, but I only have to go back to the late 20th century to find lots of psychological terror in my own country and this same terror is still present in Ireland, e.g…

You claim that an atheist moral position is just a personal opinion, nothing more. Your statement above as well as others you made in prevuious posts, proves you are wrong. Whether a rational mind forces one to reject God is another discussion.
