I just watched a spanish movie about a man and a woman who didnt know they were half brothers, the man hot her pregnant, and months later they discover they are brother and sister.

(they moved to a big city and met there, they didnt know each other before, when their mother comes visit her daughter she tells her, oh, you met the son I had with my first husband, and they realize they are brothers)

What should be done there

Abortion is a no no obviously, should the woman raise the baby alone with help of the brother/father?
Should they live together as mother father of the baby, but remain chaste?

What should be said to the baby?

It was absed on a true story by the way

Well marriage between a half-sister and half-brother would be against Church law. They would have to get a dispensation to be married but I don’t know if they are ever given for half-siblings (I know they’re never given for full siblings). That’s the policy of the Church. In terms of divine law, the Church only teaches that a parent-child cannot be married. Some theologians teach that any ancestor-descendant cannot be married and a few theologians I believe teach that brother-sister cannot be married by divine law also (I don’t see how that’s right since the children of Adam married each other).

Practically, I think they should live as brother and sister. In a non-sexual domestic partnership.

I’ve wondered about this in terms of “reproductive technology”. With women conceiving thru IVF & sperm donation there must be thousands of people who are half-siblings or first cousins without being aware of it.

In fact I’ve read of cases of this happening. Boy and girl meet and start dating seriously. Later it turns out that they were both IVF children and had the same father.

In another article I heard of a girl who wanted to seek out her father, an IVF donor who had no idea who or where is “children” might be. She found him and there was a reunion of sorts. He liked it, but was a little worried that there might be several dozen others wanting to look him up.

I don’t think sperm banks or IVF clinics normally reveal the identity of the donors.

The OP didn’t mention anything about them being married, so the answer is obvious. They need to go to confession, stop sinning, and break up.
