Incidental pornography?

so the other day i was sitting in my dorm room when the five guys or so were looking for a movie to watch, i was doing my homework on the couch. they chose the movie hostel. its suppose to be a scary movie…well…the first half of the movie is more of a soft core porn movie. well during these random sexual scenes i did my best to look away, i put my calculator up over the screen so as not to see it and looked away most of the time. however, every now and then my homework wasnt interesting enough to keep me focused and i would look at the tv for at most a second, no longer, i never dilly dalllyed on the image, and if i saw an image i didnt want i went right back to doing homework. it was like when you are taking a test you look up for a split second from your test, you quickly go back to it so you dont look like you are cheating. well it was like that, i didnt want to see these things, i didnt dwell on it, however, i know that i could have left the room and didnt…any advice?

Oh my God, I am heartly sorry for having offended you, and I detest all my sins because of Your just punishment, but most of all because they offend You, my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen!

My advice would be to remove yourself from the situation next time. I think that the “second” that you looked at it may have in reality been longer, but the intent (I assume) was not to be an active participant in the viewing of the movie. You conscience was working overtime here.

Talk with your confessor about this.

I agree it was a near occasion of sin and you definitely should have left the room. I don’t think any sin really occurred but I also I agree it would be good to talk to your confessor about.
