Inclusive Language Hymnal?

Unless you work for GIA, I did not call you anything. That was the specific people referenced. I did it because they pulled off some of the dumbest lyric changes I have ever seen in my life. They advertise the songs in their hymnal but do not warn unsuspecitng parishes that they do not put the real hymns in, but rather and altered version.

When they change the words to a carol people have sung for decades because they think the new wording is better, that is a stupid decision. If I would have caught these mistakes when we first got these hymnals, I would have packaged them all up and sent them right back. It is not asking too much to expect a company to warn buyer that they are selling a PC hymnal.

Of course, OCP is guilty of doing the same thing, in two languages. They have even gone to the point of tooling with Spanish grammer. It has always been understood that “hombres” means both men and women. “Ninos” means boys and girls. You don’t need to be redundant, but, OCP manages to pull that feat off with a total disregard for the language.

As I said in my initial response to this thread, publishing houses are falling to their knees in homage to the gods of political correctness and inclusive language while they turn a blind eye to the authoritative documents of the Holy See.

If you are being ironic or being humourous I am not amused.

It is one thing to think that those who disagree with you are wrong, misguided etc but to continue such name calling is, in my view, inappropriate.

Please have some sympathy and understanding for those who are genuinely intellectually challenged.

The whole concept behind political correctness is just plain stupid and moronic. If you don’t like that, too bad.

How long until those who have ‘relabeled’ become offended by their own new labels? For example, there’s a pejorative feeling from heavyset folk on the word fat, so let’s call them big-boned. Oh, that pejorative feeling transferred over to big-boned, so let’s call them weight challenged. How long until they get upset over that?

Re-defining a good percentage of a language every few years to appease egos and vanities is just plain stupid (not to mention a gargantuan waste of time and effort).

Political correctness is a form of expression used by liberals so that they are guaranteed to have the upper hand in conversation; a sort-of secret code that is always changing so that the unenlightened will remain so. It is a cheap and meaningless way to feel superior while pretending to be sensitive to the feelings of the “inferior” person. When too many people begin using the verbal “secret handshakes,” it becomes necessary to invent new ones while convincing people that the older forms are insulting. When the liberal gets the chance to correct someone using an outdated term, it makes him seem more educated and enlightened.
