That is the problem in a nutshell. Forsake the truth to get ahead. Sad.
I agree. In small ways we learn to censor our opinions, beliefs, and values in order to conform to what is popularly acceptable. We bow before bullies and develop a value system that says being a good person means recycling and not hurting or offending anyone. It’s cowardice, and I am as guilty of it as anyone.

When it’s something as small as this, yes.
I have to agree with buffalo on this one.
You see Matt, it’s not about it being small, it’s the principle behind it.

If you’re willing deny what *you believe *to be accepted by others or to get what you what in small matters, eventually that black line between small and big will fade to gray and you’re going to cross boundaries and end up losing your soul.

(And I sadly speak from pass experience.)

I know what you mean Nat, but…I believe that getting an A is more important than sticking up for your beliefs on such a tiny issue.
😊

But if you can do it on a tiny issue, you’ll be able to convince yourself that big issues aren’t so big anymore and you’re going to end up MISRABLE. (like I said – I’ve been there)

Not true natalie, but I respect your opinion.
🙂

It’s a small price to pay for an A IMHO. You go to school to learn and get good grades, not to debate

I respect your opinion, too, but it’s just confusing me.

What’s inside you and what you believe in are so much more important that getting good grades…and who’s to say the teacher won’t give them an A for sticking up for what they believe? I’ve had it happen. 🙂

Yes it is, but you have to think about your future. Maybe the teacher would! and if the teacher does, great! probelm solved!
😃

If I were the parent, I would have the students complete their public announcement giving the information they researched, and giving light on the controversy. As long as they do it well, and their sources are legitimate, they should do awesome.

I would also privately give the teacher the business for not giving all sides of the story and using a propaganda piece in science class as legitimate scientific research. I would also say something to the principal and the school board.

This is what your big bucks are paying for, folks. Propaganda and shoddy educational methods.

No, you misunderstood me, I meant you as a person are better then grades. And what is your future going to be if you aren’t a strong individual? You need to get you priorities straight. 😛
(And I mean that in the best possible way 🙂 )

Yes, you are. But grades are VERY important for your future. A strong individual knows how to pick and choose his/her battles. I do girl! but this isn’t the topic to discuss them.

Grades aren’t THAT important! Sure, they help you get into a good college, but when God judges you after you die, what’s he going to say? – “you forfeited what you believed in…but that’s OK because you got an A in on it and so I’ll just forget about it…”

(that also was sarcastic 🙂 )

well…when you put it that way…you are 100% correct.
🙂

People don’t usually openly talk about population control with global warming, but it is subtly implied that if humans are the problem then the solution is fewer humans. When environmentalists realize that some of us won’t voluntarily participate in their two child limit, it could get very ugly.

It would be a great public service announcement for the original poster’s child to warn his classmates of this potential danger from “global warming”. Some people who hold views very contrary to the Catholic Church about the sanctity of human life use concerns for the environment to promote dangerous agendas. Beware!
:amen:

This happens more than you think. Your paper must conform to your liberal’s profs view or you get a lower grade.

What do we call such compliance?

IDK…I give up
😉

And please please don’t act like it’s only liberals who do so…I got a lower grade that I should of on a paper before for writing something that the teacher found wrong. So yeah…all teachers do it.

My $0.02 is that you know this teacher better than any of us. You know whether or not he is open minded enough to encourage debate. If he is a hard nose man-made global warming proponent, then bucking against his ideology will only make your kids life miserable in school.

But I don’t advocate just feeding him what he wants hear either. I don’t buy into MMGW myself and I totally understand your angst on this topic. I have two kids (3rd and 4th grade) in Catholic school also and I find the window is slammed shut on any debate on the topic. I dread this kind of stuff in the future too.

For what it is worth, I am an engineer at a fuel cell company. While it may appear to be green technology and it does have promise for future energy solutions, it is not without it’s environmental impact. There is a tremendous need for Platinum and other precious metals to make this stuff work. These metals need to be MINED (severe impact to soil and earth) and processed (very toxic emissions). There is no purely “clean green” technology out there. So whether we drill for oil or strip mine the earth for these metals, it will just shift the impact.

Again, just my $0.02 worth 🙂

Granted. The only reason I used the word liberal is that 90% or so of professors admit to being liberal.

Have you seen An American Carol?
:rotfl:

Generally, I don’t think a person should hide or sacrifice their beliefs to get a better grade. I do sometimes take a viewpoint opposed to mine when I’m writing an essay and it’s easier to argue from the other side in a short three to five pages, but I think that’s different than changing your work to suit a professor’s bias.

No I haven’t. Why?

I would go for the A, if it’s something as small as this, an A(on which sounds like a major project) is more important than your beliefs on the matter.
🙂
Nothing is more important than your beliefs.

God Bless
