Incorrect pronunciation of words

We provide each lay reader with a book every Ligurgical year. It covers the readings, pronunciations, etc. We also keep a Bible Dictionary at the office for words that the reader may find problematic.

That’s great. It really bothers me when native English speakers completely mispronounce things like “Ephesians”… if you get the book name wrong its not a great start . I wish all parishes would offer a little tutoring for this sort of thing.

Instead of It alian a lot of people say eye talian.

I know elderly eyetalians that pronounce it that way.

One is also the only person I’ve heard use the term “dago” (in reference to himself!)

Two words I’ve heard misspelt in the UK are
Susstificate for certificate

And Pacific for specific

I’ve also heard on tv one or two people saying purdy for pretty? US.
