Incorrupted bodies

If it HAD been so many, where are the ‘fruits’? Surely so many people so fired up and so convinced should have had a longlasting effect on the church in Portugal? Surely it would have been like a Pentecost, with them going back to their towns and villages, full of zeal, inspiring others? And then these effects reaching worldwide, even taking into account the less-developed communications of the 19th century?

The fruits of Fatima are many and not limited to Portugal. Personally, I can say that Our Lady’s appearance there has had a powerful effect on our lives- here in the United States many years later.

But for the sake of argument, say everyone who saw the miracle of the sun, went on to live hedonistic, godless lives. How could that be possible. It’s simple- people have a free will and can choose to follow or not follow God. How long did it take the Israelites to build the Golden Calf after seeing water turned to blood and a walking through the Red Sea among many other things. We aren’t any different in the modern world.
 
Back to the OP, yes I find the incorruptible bodies of the saints absolutely amazing, and I am also surprised this phenonema is not more widely known. I am sure if they became more well known they would strenthgen the faith of Catholics and maybe even help others find the faith.

As to the doubting Thomases, read the lives of the Saints. They were able to perform many, many miracles, completely unexplainable by “science”. Having an incorruptible body was for some just one minor part of their amazing, miraculous lives.
 
After reading some of these doubting statements I couldn’t help but think of the pharisees saying, If He is the Son of God, let Him save Himself. Then we will believe. (I can’t quote it because I don’t know the exact words off hand).

The reason miracles like The Miracle of the Sun hasn’t had a long lasting effect on Portugal is simple. We are human and we are our own worst enemies. How soon we forget or refuse to believe.

“For those who believe, no explaination is necessary. For those who do not believe, no explaination is possible.”

Nobody’s twisting anyone’s arm to believe, but please don’t try to change our faith in God and His miracles.

I see them as miracles. Perhaps only a few saints are incorruptible because they had truly achieved perfection. I don’t ponder it though. Some supernatural things just need to be believed through faith.

Padre Pio’s body is not considered as an incorruptible. This is a common misconception and in order to aviod future misunderstandings, this link should be help:

"Her death occurred in 1879. At the exhumation 46 years after death. the doctor commented. “What struck me during this examination, of course, was the state of perfect preservation of the skeleton, the fibrous tissues of the muscles (still supple and firm), of the ligaments, and of the skin, and above all the totally unexpected state of the liver after 46 years.’ Wax imprints were only placed over the face and hands in 1925 at the time of canonisation, with still no decomposition.” - Yahweigh

St. John the Wonderworker’s incorrupt body is in the Russian Orthodox main temple about half a mile from our parish. On the Feast of the Saints of North America our priest reminded us that we have a real saint right in our neighborhood and encouraged us to all go and venerate his holy relics. His presence here is one of the sadly best kept secrets of our city, dedicated to our patron saint Franchesco. 🙂

Also, I was wondering if anyone knows when Saint Cecilia’s body was last exhumed. For the most part I’ve heard that her body is incorrupt but there was one that said it turned to dust soon after it was moved from the catacombs.

I find it so incredible why these signs are only given to this Church! I don’t see these signs or miracles, so I ask myself, is someone trying to tell me something? When will I open my eyes, my mind, my heart? 🙂
