This…sickens me. Not even the action itself really, but the incredible disrespect shown towards this man is disgusting. I understand having your reasons to disagree with the Church on the issue of gay marriage, but this man is the Pope! Show some respect. This is a classless display by these people, done only to inflame Catholics. How is this supposed to help their cause?

You are totally right. Or rather, scripture is.

The best part is, before we get bent out of shape at Spain, is to know that there were 200 gays protesting…but there were well over 15,000 people along his route too (if I remember correctly). They were about one percent of the people there who were showing reverence for him.

As for the comments below? I know it’s kind of rude of me, but I always say “Yes, we’ll see who has the last laugh there. You or God. Good luck.”

This represents ~1% of everyone who saw the Pope. I wonder if he even noticed or remembers seeing them. I get the feeling that the liberal media is running a smear campaign on the Church by greatly exaggerating the number of protesters and the number of priest scandals. Satan and his minions must be proud that they are turning so many away from God, recruiting souls for hell. Let’s pray for everyone involved, that they turn from their ways, repent their sins, and find God.

I find what they did sickening, too…but let’s not bring up the Inquisition, shall we?

400 years ago, these people would have been burned at the stake. I do not think anybody wants to bring that back now. Not even Traditionalist Catholics.

What we need is to pray for these folks to repent of what they are doing. That they achieve discernment and an understanding of The Truth.

Ultimately, they will have to justify themselves to God at the end of their lives and in the last days.

Which would be a much more appropriate “resolution” to this than WE Mere Humans could ever administer.

It would be hard to do a less violent protest than a ‘Kiss In.’

Besides the Kiss In wasn’t about changing any policies or anyone’s mind. It was about thumbing their noses at the Vatican and generating publicity. If you get upset and rant about it you will be giving the protesters what they want.

True. The best we can do at this point (considering the LGBT train shows no signs of stopping) is pray for them, perhaps publicly; and if that bothers them, too bad. Nonviolent protest, you see.

Now watch your heart rate buddy, but I saw on the news yesterday that some in the protest are … Catholics.

It can be hard to understand what’s going on in other nations. Church attendance here keeps dropping (now below 15%), due I think mainly to associations with Franco and the past. Yet three quarters of the Spanish identify themselves as Catholic, and some of them would agree with protests against what they see as a church that is increasingly out of touch. I’m just reporting here - as a Baptist I can only stand on the sidewalk and hope we’re not all drifting into atheism. I wish the Pope all success in his fight against aggressive secularism, but he has a tough fight on his hands.

It’s a shame this took attention away from the beautiful Sagrada Familia, which the Pope came to consecrate. I found some articles in English - see National Post photo and BBC video.

I found their website, they called themselves queer kissing flash mob. This is from their instructions (my translation). The last line is neat.

SIGH I totally disagree with what they did, even as a sexually active gay man myself. It was extremely disrespectful. And this is coming from someone who has some major issues with the Pope.

I mean if a group of anti-gay marriage protesters protested at a gay wedding, the couple would be very angry and extremely hurt. As well they should be! The same can be said for this situations. Catholics should be angered. Not because gay people kissed in front of the Pope (that part isn’t that huge of a deal) but because it was an extreme display of anger and resentment to ALL Catholics. Not just those who are against gay marriage.

Thank you for your concern, but they knew the cameras would be there, and they’d get attention with this little display. No cameras, no attention, no display, correct? It wasn’t the Pope’s attention they wanted but the notice of the media. People in the audience might also have drawn tight around them so they would in effect be neutralized in their quest for attention. Would have actually been fun for the heteros nearby to start kissing at the same time! Like “Where’s Waldo,” try to find the gay couple in all that kissing!

We’re prepared for much worse persecution than some kissing.

EXACTLY. I can totally understand having issues with the Pope; the teaching on the gay lifestlye is hard to accept, and people have their own opinions. But to show disrespect like this? Classless.
