I would like to know how I can explain to people why it is wrong to leave the church. A lot of my friends have fallen victim to this independent priest and they think it is right to leave the church because of the “changes” in V2. I tried to explain that there was nothing forced onto people as they think, but because of personal events they think that the latin mass was abolished and that nuns were not allowed to wear habits and many other “things”. My priest said he thinks it best not to meet with these people, but if I know this is going on and I don’t do anything about it I think I am doing something wrong. I want to show these people the truth and I would like to know how I could have the bishop of the diocese invite this priest and these people to a conference to explain what has happened and invite them back into the church. Any and all advice from people is welcome. Prefer advice from canon law experts.

If you have told them you don’t agree with them, then you’ve done all you can do. Now pray like the dickens and let God do the rest. He may bring them back home, or he may leave them to themselves. In the end, it’s about their decision. Don’t try to argue you way trough this. I’ve tried it with a woman I know who is a really nice person but who has some really weird beliefs. Especially about the Catholic Church. She says she gets her stuff from “authentic” sources, but won’t say what/who these sources are. We last talked this past Sunday, and I’ve decided that it’s a waste of breath talking with her. So, I"ll be praying for her, and turn her over to him. From now on, it’s his battle and not mine.

I am more of a hands on person. I feel God has lead me here to do something more. I am already praying but God also gave me a brain and the ability to use it that is why i asked how Ican remedy the situation.

In all honesty, I don’t think you can. Not by yourself. Pray all you want, but talking to these people will give you nothing but frustration. You’ve done what you can in trying to talk to them already. Now let God do his part. This is something you can’t fix. OK? Give this battle over to God.
