Indian archbishop is nominee for Nobel Peace Prize

Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil of Guwahati, India, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work for reconciliation among different religious and ethnic groups in northeast India.

Archbishop Menamparampil, a Salesian, was recommended for the award by the Salesian Bulletin in Italy. A spokesman for the Indian bishops’ conference remarked that the award “would be a legitimate recognition for the commitment and dedication carried out for more than 25 years to build peace and harmony.”

The 74-year old archbishop has successfully led seven major peace initiatives in the last 15 years. The Joint Peace Team (JPT) of northeast India under his leadership intervened in the following conflicts: Bodo-Adivasi (1996), Kuki-Paite (1998), Dimasa-Hmar (2003), Karbi-Kuki (2003), Dimasa-Karbi (2004), Bodo-Muslim at Udalguri (2010) and Rabha-Garo (2011). “Church people negotiating peace in a conflict situation may not be considered a politically correct act,” the archbishop said. “But when the Church leaders and eminent citizens from warring factions join me in the conflict resolution process, it is making the Word of God come alive in the lives of people,” he added.

This archbishop is a better choice than julian assange. if the past is any indication, wikileak will possibly bag the award because anti-Christian and other liberal causes are chic.
