I talked about this with my sister (who has a son, age 6, with autism) and she told me the main reason for the “increase” in autism is not so much that it is on the rise but the fact that Doctors and teachers are now not just labeling kids are mentally retarded (children with severve or classic autism) or “bad children” or “extremely shy” (PDD such as my nephew Brian) or “Strange but bright” (children with Aspergers).
With earlier intervention of these problems the children are doing much better than they did in generations before when their special needs where poorly met.
PS- my nephew never had the MMR because his Doctor did not give him anymore “baby shots” after he suffered a seizure with a DPT shot.
