Indiana time zones

Indiana has problems with their time zones:

I read this article and I could not help but laugh. This time zone system is so screwed up!! I have a friend from Indiana who has said they have problems with the time zones, but I did not realize the problem was this complex!! They should just draw a line down the middle of the state to separate the time zones. Problem solved.

I used to live in Indiana. It was actually kind of nice never to have to worry about changing the clocks twice a year. Why does most everyone else feel the need to change?

If you feel the situation in Indiana is unusual, try Arizona. Most of the state stays on mountain standard time all year around. Some Indian reservations use daylight savings time just to be different from the “white man”. Other Indian reservations stay on standard time just because they don’t like the Indian tribes that switch to daylight savings time.

Yup, the state song should be “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is.”

Calais, Maine and St Stephen’s Canada are abutting cities split by the time zone. They used to split the difference for their own time zone - Eastern plus a half hour, or Atlantic minus half an hour. Don’t know if this is still true.

Maybe Indiana should do the same. :whacky:

I have lived in Northeast Indiana all my life. I actually enjoy not having to ever change my clocks throughout the year unless the power goes out.

I wish it would stay the same.

As an Ohio Buckeye, just accross the border, I wish your time would stay the same, too. It gives a good jump on the fine restaurents in the Hamilton and Angola area. My daughter lives in Auburn.

Hey we are practically neighbors!

I am in Angola at least 3 times a week. Lots of good places to shop and eat.

I like being in the different time area than Ohio and Michigan. You have more options and chances to get to places. If you miss something here . . well drive a little bit and you will get to try again because you gained an hour!

I live in Chicago, but I have had two children graduate from Purdue. and I currenty have a child there. We visit frequently, and have often had time confusion. Apparently that will continue if that town goes permanently on Eastern time. Every time I go to Indiana I call my daughter and ask her the time. When you add daylight savings to the mix it does get comical. I have grown used to it, but actually have been an hour late for occasions when I get mixed up or an hour early. Which is it? Fall back, Spring forward, except in Indiana and then it depends on where you are going. You have to love it.

Both my husband and I are from Indiana, but I’m from central Indiana (no time change) and my husband is from southern Indiana (they change). When we visit during the summer I can never remember who is on what time and to confuse matters more, we live in MN so at some point during the year we are on the same time as some of our relatives, but I have no idea when or whom! lol

you just have to grow up there to understand…
I say leave it the same… Not harming anyone… Just forcing “outsiders” to think for once
Indiana though has the idea… it’s DayLight SAVINGS time… In a place where you get X amount of Sunlight in both winter and summer… You save nothing, just get headaches

Yes, we are. Montpelier is about 20 miles east of Angola, just off route 20. We go through your town about 4 or 5 times a year to go to Shipsi. and Middlebury. The Essen Haus in Middlebury is one of the best restaurents around. It’s awful hard on the waistline, though. So, take care and God bless, neighbor!

The situation along the Colorado River is unique as well. Most who work in the Laughlin, Nevada casinos live in Arizona–an hour head of NV in the winter but on the same time in the summer. Also eerie to be on the western edge of that time zone as it is dark when everyone is headed to work and school.

WOW! Talk about a small world, I used to live in Angola. It’s where I met and married my wife 25 years ago. If it hadn’t been for the big recession in 1980, I would have stayed. Good place to live, interesting mix of farmers, town folk, college students, tourists, bikers, and Amish. Wish I had taken the time to visit the Auburn/Cord/Dusenburg museum when I lived so close to Auburn.

When I was going to college in Indy in the late 1960s, we always said that the airline announcement for arrivals was, “We are now about to land in Indianapolis. Please set your watches back 100 years.”
