I have never attended a Mass with liturgical Dance. Is this common? I am a 35 year old man with a beer gut. Would I also need a leotard. Is this mandatory.😃
YES! How dare you ask such a stupid question! You must wear a leotard with leopard print, and you have to carry a bowl of incense! Or maybe you can be the guy that lifts the women up in the air while they twirl flags. :Hmmm: I like the strong man idea. You will do that.😛

I have a wet suit I used when surfing at the age of 15 still in the garage. Maby I could spin while wearing flippers and singing Lord Of the Dance to Bongos.😃

Best signs:

1.) A good youth program. Good youth means good adults!

2.) Does the priest just go through the prayers or does he take his time and be reverent during the mass. The second is the best!

3.) Do you get the same penece everytime you go to Confession? that’s a bad thing.

Holy Rosary in Portland not only has daily Eucharistic Adoration and confession, but also a monthly Eucharistic Adoration for the youth, with support from their youth, which is attended by 50-60 young people each month.

If you are in Portland and want to visit a traditional parish for Mass, take the MAX from the airport to the convention center stop. It is a five-minute walk to Holy Rosary. The Dominicans run it; they do a great job. There are lots of other great parishes in the area, IMHO, but if you’re visiting and want something traditional, try them. (Oh, and do visit the Grotto, too. For a state with only about 10% Catholics, we’ve got some very nice places.)

Just an fyi to some people, many good orthodox parishes don’t have altar rails, good stained glass, nice statues, etc, simply because the past generations had a ‘phase’. My parish, for example, started out as a small chapel and was rebuilt in 1972, in the round, etc. We have had a nice succession of orthodox priests who have replaced the flying Jesus cross with a beautiful crucifix, added nice candlesticks, statues, a stone on the floor in front of the door that says ‘Introibo ad altare Dei’, etc. No altar rails yet, etc. You can’t judge by the building or the smells and bells, but by the way people do things.

We had a visiting priest who conducted the liturgy the way our pastor does, ie, he did all the ‘traditional’ things because he wanted to honor the way we do it here(which is a good idea), but he did it in a very rushed manner, and acted like he didn’t care about it. It’s not so important WHAT they do(to a point; obviously, abuse is a buse), but HOW they do it.
