I have never heard anyone ever say they celebrate Columbus Day because they want to glorify genocide.Many who celebrate Indigenous People’s Day argue it glorifies genocide.

The “Plains Indians” as we usually think of them; Sioux, Cheyenne, moved onto the plains in the late 1700s when white mans’ horses allowed them to follow the buffalo herds. Before then, they did not live there. So, the Great Plains might have been “their land” to the small bands who were there before the “Plains Indians”, but not to the later comers.
The total life span of the “Horse Indian” plains culture was about 100 years from start to finish.
