Celebrate whatever and whoever you want. All I know is that I get the day off.

That’s good enough for me.

we don’t get the day off here. Already a thread on this, merge please

Lots of mythology in the worship of Indian culture. From the article:

“There’s no visible Indigenous footprint here when in actuality, this is all their land,” Valerie Adams, a member of South Dakota’s Oglala Lakota Nation who has lived in Montgomery for more than a decade, told the Advertiser.

The “Plains Indians” as we usually think of them; Sioux, Cheyenne, moved onto the plains in the late 1700s when white mans’ horses allowed them to follow the buffalo herds. Before then, they did not live there. So, the Great Plains might have been “their land” to the small bands who were there before the “Plains Indians”, but not to the later comers.

The total life span of the “Horse Indian” plains culture was about 100 years from start to finish.
