Indonesian Sunday School Teachers Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

http://www.newsmax.com/images/email/9-13-05 VOM Women.jpgIndonesian judges sentenced three women on September 1st to three years in prison for allowing Muslim children to attend a Christian Sunday School program, “Happy Sunday”. Rebekka Zakaria, Eti Pangesti and Ratna Bangun received the sentence after judges found them guilty of attempting to convert children under the Child Protection Act of 2002. The Sunday school teachers had instructed the children to get permission from their parents before attending the program, and those who did not have permission were asked to go home, according to Jeff Hammond of Bless Indonesia Today. The three women were relieved that they had not been given the maximum five-year prison sentence and plan to appeal the conviction but were devastated at the prospect of being separated from their children.

As they have done throughout the trial, Islamic extremists made murderous threats both inside and outside the courtroom. Hammond said several truckloads of extremists arrived; one brought a coffin to bury the accused if they were found innocent. “The ladies, witnesses and judges were constantly under the threats of violence from hundreds of Islamic radicals who threatened to kill the three ladies, witnesses, pastors, missionaries and even the judges if the women were acquitted,” Hammond said.

Since the first accusations were made, Muslim authorities in West Java have forced Zakaria’s church to close. Muslim leaders have forced at least 60 unlicensed churches in West Java to shut down over the past year, with minimal intervention from the government.

Hospitaler

May i ask how old are you ?

Just a question thats all

Any way i am not anybodys enemy here at least thats my perception and i am sure this is the stance of all Muslims on this forum. And i am sure that the Majority of christians here dont share your view .

But let me assure you Hospitaler that i am not your enemy . And if you ever had a Practicing Muslim as your neighbour then you will be having someone who will be happy for your happiness and sad for your saddness and someone who will always be at yr side .

If you ever come to Egypt then please i will be honored to see you and show you the place and make your stay happy . I dont care how much you hate my faith i will never be your enemy. I am sure that one day you will come to see that there is far more dangers to you and your faith than a practicing muslim.

The Famins, the family break ups, the Orphans, the injustices , the staunch poverty , the poor education , racism etc…

Hospitaler, i am not trying to preach to you .

Probably and most likely you will make fun of me but i will take the chance and say this with all my heart and may Allah witness what i say …

It really cut in me when you called me your enemy.

A Muslim.

My point in trying to get a reaction here is what does this mean for the rest of the democracies in the world? If Islam becomes the majority in any nation this is what we as minorities can expect from this socalled “tolerant” religion. I fear Islam very very much and with good cause. They do not believe in the axiom “live and let live”. There is no love in Islam except for their god.

That particular bit of data, I’m afraid, must remain undisclosed.

Strange. I don’t recall ever specifically calling *you *my enemy.

Islamic nations are persecuting Christians. What are they if not enemies? I am certain that not all muslems feel this way, but radical Islam is indeed the enemy of all free peoples and nations.

My friend, in France they banned Hijab (head cover), and if a muslim student wears a hijab she’ll be suspended.
many muslims in the UK and US are detained without charges or bail.

Suspended so what. At least she gets to go to school in France. In Pakistan or Saudia Arabia or most other Islamic country she wouldn’t be allowed to go to school. For that matter outside without being cover from head to toe.
Christian in France cannot wear a cross without being suspended.
France is a Christian country still I think.
So let’s compare.

Banning a head scarf is not throwing someone in jail. The people who are detained are terrorists. Not even close to the same thing. By the way, are Moslems allowed to have a copy of the Koran in France? Yes. How about a Christian in Saudia Arabia, is a bible allowed? No! In fact you could be sent to JAIL for that “offense”. If you cannot see the difference, that is more evidence of how dangerous Islam can be.

“radical Islam is indeed the enemy of all free peoples and nations.”

That is my concern, as well, meedo. Radical/extremist fundamentalists of any religion pose a threat to some degree to those around them. As StMarkEofE wrote, there doesn’t seem to be much “live and let live” among those groups.

When I first heard this issue from friend who living outside Indo, I didnt believe it. As far as I know local newspapers never mentioned about it. Muslim oppress minority is getting worse in Indonesia.

Muslims and non-Muslims are welcome to post in response to the first sentence of Mark’s post, provided that the discussion is civil, charitable, and free of unsupported generalizations with regard to any faith.

Alternatively, the thread will be closed.

I want to hear more from muslim around here regarding this issue… looks like they jump the topic about banned hijab in France (whereas Christian also banned from wearing cross) without even give any comment about these poor women. [Uncharitable text deleted]

Based on my experience living in an ultra-Islamic country, you cannot use rhetoric with these people. Everything they say is right and everything they mess up while conducting business with you is your fault. It is never their fault. That’s why I have to put everything in paper. I can understand why some of you are frustrated in here.
