Indulgence for a living person

If I gain a plenary indulgence and I offer to someone who is alive. what if that person is not in a state of grace?

I only know of two ways, which are by praying the rosary at your church and by doing the stations of the cross. I am sure there are several other ways.
 
As said earlier, one cannot earn an indulgence and then choose who it effects. Keep in mind that one of the dispositions required to earn an indulgence is that the recipient is free from guilt and mortal sin.

There a countless ways to gain indulgences.
  1. Prayer
  2. Going to Mass
  3. Praying for dead
  4. Praying for the Pope
  5. receiving communion after confession
  6. and on and on and on
When I was a member the Pius V group I was so caught up on gaining indulgences that I missed the whole point. I was only doing the prayers and exercises for the bennies of accumulating indulgences. I gave up worrying about them and pray because I want to not because if I do I will get this or that.

“An indulgence is partial or plenary according as it removes either part or all of the temporal punishment due to sin.” The faithful can gain indulgences for themselves or apply them to the dead.

Thank you! I think I always had an odd idea about idulgences, and this clears it up a lot more for me.
