indulgence question

Today I went to pray in a chapel, where there was adoration, and I decided to pray a rosary so I could do a complete indulgence for a soul in purgatory.
Whether or not my confession was still valid I am not sure, I do assume I am in a sate of grace. I can look up how many days that again was.

However, I have a question regarding another condition. Communion. Yes, I did go to communion today, but that was BEFORE I went to pray in the chapel and decide to do the indulgence. So when I went to communion, I was not aware that i would later use it also for the indulgence. Was that still valid for it or not? (I wanted to go again tonight but then I couldn’t. It is already evening where I am by the way.)
If it was not valid, could I also use a communion from tomorrow?

Rosary Indulgence

Confession is good about 20 days before or after the indulgenced work. The Communion can be received any time on that day, or even on other days, but is best on the same day.

I’m looking at the norm 20 now, and it states (for plenary) in addition to the general intention to receive the indulgence, and excluding all attachment to sin, and the work itself also receive:


  1. *]sacramental confession
    *]Eucharistic Communion
    *]prayer for the intention of the Sovereign Pontiff

    Norm 20.3 has has that those three may be fulfilled several days before or after the performance of the prescribed works, but that it is fitting that Communion be received and the prayer for the intention of the Holy Father be said on the same day the work (Rosary) is performed.

    So it is not rigid.

So I could receive communion tomorrow and use it for it.

Or do you know if the communion of this morning was valid even though I didn’t take it in awareness that I would later pray for an indulgence?

Oh, I don’t know if it has to be a prior intention. I usually start my day with a prayer that I wish to obtain all indulgences know or unknown this day and then say prayers for the intentions of the Holy Father.

You should be able to use tomorrows Communion for it.
 
Thank you all… still I didn’t see anything about it whether one has to be AWARE of the indulgence while taking communion. Esepcially if communion was taken before.

With confession, if it is valid for several… well of course it is difficult to be abware e of all of them last time I confessed… or will confess, if I apply a later confession… 😉 But with the communion, I really do wonder.

Of course I think I will go to communion today anyway, as I go on most days, and I hope nothing will impede me today… but I still do wonder, just in case. 🙂
 
Also, it is sometimes not noticed that the type of prayer to be used in gaining an indulgence is vocal prayer not mental prayer, unless one is mute. Minimally the mouth moves.
 
i usually do that anyway when I say the rosary.
I often say the rosary while I walk into the town center here in the morning, it is just about a rosary distance. :)))
In the chruch I try very quielty… ;)))

Oh, and I did go to communion yesterday, thought of the intention too I think at the beginning of mass, if I remember right I even prayed that God would take all attachment to sin from me… but I think while I took communion I may not have been aware anymore becuase the mass had distracted me from it maybe… but I don’t think God would not make valid because of this?
