Here’s a very good site. And it’s simply stated. To me anyway.

ourladyswarriors.org/indulge/plenary.htm

I guess instead of praying the entire rosary (which would be a good idea) you can pray the “3rd decades”. Whats that? Of each of the mysteries the 3rd meditation? I want a marian practice too. But I am looking a Mary un oer of knots. I don’t know if the same graces are granted as to the rosary.

"…3. Say the first 3 decades of the Rosary.
  1. Make the meditation of the day (to be posted each day)
  2. Say the last 2 decades of the rosary…"
theholyrosary.org/maryundoerknots

Now does this mean say on a certain day there is the joyful mysteries. Meditate and say the first 3 meditations, do the “undoer” meditation, then say the last 2 meditations of the rosary?

I think “Mary undoer of knots” can be lawfully usesd instead of the Pope’s intentions. Which changes every month I guess.

A “third” part of the Rosary is simply five decades. Technically, it should be a quarter now because there are twenty mysteries.

Undoer of knots is just a variation of the Rosary. You’re still praying the Rosary so it doesn’t make a difference where indulgences are concerned.

You still pray for the Pope’s intentions separately. I suggest you don’t try to “think”. Rather, just obey. You can simply do this by reciting an Our Father and Hail Mary for those intentions right after you conclude the Rosary.

So in short:

The Rosary is the indulgenced work. This you do to gain the plenary indulgence. Whether or not you embellish it with the Undoer of Knots is not relevant to the indulgence.

In addition:
  • You need to pray for the intentions of the Holy Father. An Our Father and Hail Mary separate from the Rosary will do just fine.
  • You need to confess.
  • You need to receive Holy Communion.
  • You must be completely detached from sin, even venial sin.

One our father and one Hail Mary. Hum. Is that “Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee, blessed are thou among women a blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.” Right? You don’t have to say it several times. For an plenary indulgence?

These terms “decade” and “Mysteries”. Well the decade I’m not sure what that is. Twenty mysteries. So you do the 5 meditations for the mystery for that day? Five is not a “decade” so I’m a little confused. Say today is Tuesday. So what would today’s “Five decades” be? This is for my consideration of the “Untier”. Not the indulgence. 🙂

What other Hail Mary is there? One Our Father and One Hail Mary for the Pope’s intentions. In addition to the indulgenced work.

A decade is ten. Meaning, ten Hail Mary’s per Mystery. One decade=one mystery. Each “Rosary” for the purposes of the plenary indulgence is simply five decades of the Rosary, i.e. five mysteries.

Today’s five decades would be the Sorrowful Mysteries.

The website said a “third” because there used to be only fifteen mysteries, five each of Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious. We now have the Luminous as well, bringing it to twenty.

Ok I will ask this; I believe I know the answer. You can I understand do something 20 before confession. But one surely can’t do this if in mortal sin. Because you would have to confess before holy communion. You can’t take communion before confession in such a case.

I think this will help you. Published in the Denver Catholic Register a couple of years ago.

Conditions for Indulgences
Other than on special occasions, to gain a plenary indulgence, which is possible once a day, you must:
  1. Be baptized and in a state of grace
  2. Go to sacramental confession several days (up to 20) before or after the work. (One sacramental confession now suffices for gaining several plenary indulgences.)
  3. Receive Communion on each day the indulgence is sought.
  4. Pray for the intentions of the Holy Father. An Our Father and Hail Mary satisfy this requirement. (Receive Communion and pray for the Intentions of the Pope on the same day the work is performed.)
  5. Perform one of these works/acts to which the indulgence is attached:
A. adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for at least half and hour,
B. devout reading of the Scriptures for at least half an hour,
C. pious exercise of the Way of the Cross (praying in church or where properly erected),
D. recitation of the Rosary as a family or in a church before the Blessed Sacrament or part of the public oratory or group, religious community or pious association.
  1. All attachment to sin, even to venial sin, must be absent. Otherwise the indulgence becomes partial, not plenary.
  2. Have at least a general intention. You can’t receive an indulgence unintentionally or by accident.
Partial indulgences have fewer norms. The Enchiridion explains “general grants” and specific prayers and devotional use of certain objects of piety properly blessed by any priest that carry partial indulgences. Enchiridion of Indulgences
The rosary does not need to be before the Blessed Sacrament for a plenary indulgence.

One thing not mentioned is that the prayer must be vocal prayer (not mental) for the plenary.

The whole prayer: “Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the our of our death. Amen.” 😉
