Is it a mortal sin to get drunk on purpose? Is violation of any of the seven deadly sins a mortal sin?
yes abusing one’s body is a violation of the 5th commandment (assuming all the conditions for mortal sin are present, it is already grave matter, if there is full knowledge and consent, it is a sin). The sin is compounded by putting oneself in an altered mental state, because it is abuse of one’s unique human faculties that make us most like God, intellect, judgement, free will; and further compounded if you drive in that condition because you put others in danger. Is it a mortal sin to get drunk on purpose? Today is my Birthday. I have been invited around a friendsIs it a mortal sin to get drunk on purpose? Is violation of any of the seven deadly sins a mortal sin?
I take issue with your conclusion. The fact that Jesus turned water into wine in no way means that He is saying its okay for us all to go out and get drunk.Remember when Jesus turned the Water into Wine, at that Wedding where they ran out of Wine.
I would say that was quite a deliberate act leading to quite a few sore heads the morning after.
I think Jesus clearly demonstrates that we are Free to live life with a passion.
Peace
If you you think you’ll enjoy the company, then I’d say that is a good thing. If you don’t want to get drunk, that’s a good thing too. Sip on a drink or two, and maybe switch to some soda. If your pretty entrench on not drinking very much at all, they’ll probably eventually let you be. If you your appearing to be on the fence, they’ll probably end up trying to persuade you. Just be firm and clear. The nice thing is you can keep an eye on them and make sure they get home safe.I have a question regarding this. My friend invited me to a birthday party. She jokingly claims that the celebrators’ intend to serve beer and get everyone drunk. Now, I personally am not fond of beer and don’t want to get drunk, particularly now that I know that it’s a sin to get drunk. Even if I go to the party without the intention of getting drunk (but possibly still drink some beer), would it be sinful? Thanks and God bless!
Yes because you destroy the image of God in your mind by doing so.Is it a mortal sin to get drunk on purpose?
Hi HailMaryYes because you destroy the image of God in your mind by doing so.
Thanks Fix.2290 The virtue of temperance disposes us to avoid every kind of excess: the abuse of food, alcohol, tobacco, or medicine. Those incur grave guilt who, by drunkenness or a love of speed, endanger their own and others’ safety on the road, at sea, or in the air.
One of the biggest curses of ‘western civilisation’ is alcohol…if you read the full history of the settlement of America you will see how the indigenous population were often encouraged to partake in alcohol , whilst simultaneously signing away their tribal land. The same thing happened in Africa !!! In other words this cunning liquid has decimated entire peoples…never mind countless marriages ruined ; traffic carnage ; alcoholism…ect.ect. The youth especially should be made well aware of its dangers…I take issue with your conclusion. Getting drunk unintentionally is bad enough because you can end up being a danger to yourself and other people as you basically have lost control of all reason.
Moderation in drinking is okay but of course sometimes folks don’t stop and they might end up drunk.
However the OP is talking about people who go out with the deliberate intention of getting drunk. I would say that’s a grave sin.
