Does anyone know where to buy inexpensive New American Bibles? I always see protestant versions of Bibles in dollar stores and on the dollar racks in bookstores. I feel like we are missing an opportunity to put the NAB in the hands of many because they always seem to be more expensive. Does anyone else notice this?

Well, the NAB is available in its entirety online for free. I agree that it’s kind of a downer not to be able to buy an inexpensive (cheap) Catholic Bible at my local Walmart. 🤷

Besides copyright issues, I would assume (yet don’t know for certain) that, while the Bible is certainly of extreme importance, the Church doesn’t put such a huge emphasis on making inexpensive Bibles because there is so much more to our faith, such as living as Christ in the world as a means of evangelizing. Above all, we have the Real Presence of Christ Himself in the Eucharist!

Of course there is so much more to our faith than just the Bible, but I do feel like we are doing our non-Catholic brothers and sisters a disservice by making Catholic Bibles much harder to find and more expensive. I think they could be a good “welcome mat” to open up communication about Catholicism with our solo-scriptura friends.

Of course they’re more expensive! They’re complete.

But seriously, I do find the lack of Catholic Bibles annoying. I always felt very uncomfortable with swearing on a Protestant Bible.

Catholic Bibles aren’t that difficult to find. I’ve seen them at all major book stores as well as Christian bookstores as well.

Christianbook.com has several one costing only about $4.00
christianbook.com/Christian/Books/cms_sp?sp=57705

Amazon, ebay etc all sell them.

Bibles aren’t like rest of the books one will ever buy. They are an investment therefore when one can afford it, it always pays to spend a bit of money on a good one because one will be reading it for years to come.

While all the bible sources listed in posts are quite affordable if one only needs a few bibles. they still are nowhere near the $1.00 price.

I participate in Catholic fair booths and would really like a source of $1.00 or less bibles to hand out for free at the booths.
