Is the church infallible when it comes to morality? I know masturbation is taught against and can be an addiction just like porn…or even eating. I have another question too. I like to look at the swimsuit magazines. This is not a sin is it? Porn is out.

You should consult a spiritual director or ask someone knowledgeable in the faith for personal guidance, perhaps, when it comes to swimsuit issue. Some people can look and not experience lustful thoughts, depending on the images, and some people have greater weakness in that area and it would be sinful for them to cultivate the origins of that sin by looking at such things.

And yes, the Church bears the charism of infallibility when defining matters of faith and morals.*CCC#890 The mission of the Magisterium is linked to the definitive nature of the covenant established by God with his people in Christ. It is this Magisterium’s task to preserve God’s people from deviations and defections and to guarantee them the objective possibility of professing the true faith without error. Thus, the pastoral duty of the Magisterium is aimed at seeing to it that the People of God abides in the truth that liberates. To fulfill this service, Christ endowed the Church’s shepherds with the charism of infallibility in matters of faith and morals.*Also, remember, if a certain sin is a struggle for you, take advantage of the sacrament of confession, which purifies and remits sin by the power of Christ through the ministry of the priest. :o

I feel like this is a slippery slope logically speaking. You could use the same logic for porn: some people can view it and not be aroused and not lust, while other people view it and fall into lust. But porn is objectively wrong.

I agree with the conclusion you come to- that swimsuit magazines are iffy- but I think the logic you took to get to that conclusion is wrong.

The Church and. specifically, the Pope when speaking “ex cathedra”, is infallible in matters of fsiyh and morals.

I don’t see why a male would need to go out of his way to look at women in swimwear. Those ads were intended for women to find something to wear to the beach. Same with women’s bra/underwear ads: they’re for the women. I know there are swimsuit editions for sport magazines but I hear that people can choose to opt-out of those issues.

If someone blacked out the bodies with paint, just leaving the swimsuits, would you still want to look? Are you looking at the garments, or the bodies in the garments. Would you go to a shop and look at swimsuits on the rack? IF the answer is no, it is the bodies you are looking at, and that is not right.

It is sinful to look at a swimsuit issue if you are sexually aroused. However, you shouldn’t go on what I say. The next time you go to confession you should talk to the priest about this. If you don’t go to confession, you should still go and ask the priest.

I simply want to look at the beauty and admire it. I have been trying to find out what true beauty is anyway. Is it a quality of the soul that shines through the body? Is it subjective. I haven’t been able to find much answers in aesthetics.

Trust me, that’s not true beauty. Take it from someone who was addicted to porn for most of his life. You don’t want that slavery. Not in a million years do you want it. I’d wake up thinking about it, I’d go to sleep thinking about it. I still fight the urge to look at porn. It is slavery. I understand that you’re not looking at porn, but it’s a slippery slope and once you’re too far into, it is a really difficult road to break free. PLEASE believe me and don’t go down this road.

Well, my first question is how old are you? It appears you are still young. In that case, I think it is natural to be curious about the opposite sex and want to get to know them. And of course you will NOT find true beauty in aesthetics. I have seen a lot of old ugly people and was shocked to see pictures of them when they were young. It is incredible to think someone so good looking could 40 years later be so ugly. And trust me, I have seen plenty of good looking people in their 70s and could not believe how ugly they were when they were younger.

And want to know something, a lot of the old ugly people have spouse that tell them they are better looking than when they first met

Beauty does not fade with age, it fades when you get to know the person has an ugly soul. And yes, beauty is VERY subjective
