Infant Baptism - is it what God intended?

Is baptism a blessing? Is baptism a washing a way of sins? Is baptism a marker of a change in one’s identity?

Was Jesus saying that once he blesses the babies, the sinfulness they inherited by being conceived would be washed away so the Kingdom of God will belong to them? Or do you believe the babies were already baptized and free of Original Sin? Or were these unbaptized babies already pure enough in their innocent state to belong to the Kingdom of God without need of baptism?

Is blessing an infant similar to an infant dedication? Isn’t it simply a prayer over them?
In the Scripture where Jesus says “suffer the little children to come to me,” it is God’s wish or intention that is taught. IOW, Jesus does not come JUST for adults who are able to profess Faith in Him. THAT is the Baptismal lesson. So the blessing of Jesus was not the same as if they had been Baptized. The command to baptize using the Saving Trinitarian formula was not yet given to the Disciples.

God draws ALL men (men, women, children, infants, teens, everyone) to Himself through Jesus Christ. Ultimately, with Faith, they will be Baptized, and enter into the New Covenant, have their sins washed clean away, and be fortified with the Saving Grace merited by Jesus Christ. But not everyone, everywhere is given this gift. It is only by the working of the Holy Spirit that ANYONE comes to Baptism. 🙂

That is probably because you wish something of Scripture that was never intended of it.

Blessings!
Stick to presenting your position. Susan out debates most Catholics here. And with a good and fair attitude.

Here is an interesting article from a website which reject many Catholic beliefs: equip.org/article/should-babies-be-baptized/

What I find interesting, is that there is little certainty over the issue on account that there is such a divide within Protestant ism and even Evangelical/Reformed Traditions!

This particular author (of the article) is very respectful of the belief in Infant Baptism, because even his father believes in it. If it was only the Catholic Church, I’m sure he would rail it.

In general, I have read a handful of these articles in the website, I find there to be a very educated position on the issues written about. I find some things funny, however, how conclusions are reached and ever so slight twists made to support an anti-Catholic position. The article on Justification, within Catholicism, is an example. Such an incredibly close belief system laid out, yet an insistent need to find an opposition! Crazy!

That article is clearly AGAINST infant Baptism, and furthermore, creates a fuzzy feel-good atmosphere of relativism, where it really doesn’t matter.

However, it is only being true to its Evangelical (Baptist) roots. 🤷

There are LITERALLY hundreds if not thousands of books dedicated to proving the Biblical source of Infant Baptism. But fundamentalists will ALWAYS demand explicit verses, even though the Bible was not written for THEIR doctrine’s benefit. They will likewise dismiss as “unbiblical” the UNIVERSAL practice of infant Baptism in the early Church explicitly stated by ancient witnesses. 🤷
