I had a conversation the other day that went down the road of infant burial before baptism and wanted to know what the canon law states. Is there no burial at the Catholic cemetary if a baby is deceased before being baptized? Has the law changed since V2?

I’m not certain of the Canon Law on the matter. however there are two different funeral Masses, one for a Baptized infant and one for an un-Baptized infant. There may also be different graveside prayers, which may omit certain blessings and sacramentals for the un-Baptized infant.

There are separate prayers for an unbaptized infant who dies, but they are indeed buried in a Catholic cemetary.

I did think so but wanted better clarification. I thank you all for your help. God bless!

My daughter, who died in utero, (thus, not baptized) is buried in a Catholic cemetery.
