I’ll be quick and to the question…

If God knows us in the womb then why does he allow the creation of children with either physical or mental illness from genetic or other means. At the more fatal example what about a fetus who dies in the womb, what exactly did their creation serve as except a suffering for the parents to bear?

First, and most importantly, a new eternal soul was created.

While a child who dies in utero cannot be baptized, we can rely on God’s infinite mercy and hope that the child’s soul was welcomed into heaven. This soul can pray directly to God on behalf of his parents.

Second, suffering has great redemptive potential. Humble acceptance of suffering on the part of the parents is redemptive.

Third, there may be countless “reasons” for such an event which we won’t know or grasp until we are on the other side ourselves and He allows us that knowledge.

God created the universe the way He did for the greater good of mankind. We cannot fathom His reasons, but we can trust in Him.

The answer to this is the same as the answer to the general question of why God ‘allows’ evil to exist. Genetic defects are part of our fallen nature.

Agreed. When one comes to grips with the fact that we as a race have chosen to eat from the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, one can understand why these babies are the way they are. Never forgetting, of course, that whatever their defects and suffering on earth, they may spend eternity in perfect peace and joy with God.

And also, it is important to realize that their fate may bring others closer to God as well.

I thank you all for the answers, I did try and use the search but none of the topics really answered what I was looking for. I suppose I forgot about the fact that we were not intentionally created with sickness and disease; anyways again thank you all.

There are many reasons why, but we do not understand at this point. But I truly believe there is a reason for everything.
My youngest child is developmentally delayed, he is 20 years old, but functions around age 4. I used to questioned God, why? why my innocent baby?
But one thing my former Priest said, “We can all only hope to be as pure as he is.”
I believe when the time comes my son will go straight to Heaven. Perhaps he is here to help me and the others he comes into contact with.🙂
